Job Description

What will your days be like at LGI Healthcare Solutions? 

Reporting to the Director of Development, you will manage local and external teams of software developers working on GDE and eClinibase, two strategic products for LGI Health Solutions.

You will ensure that the activities of the members of these agile teams are well managed, that they are versatile, and that the group's objectives are met. You'll also play an active role in the strategic decision-making of the Development department's vice-presidency, through your close collaboration and exchanges with its director and colleagues.

How will your contributions be showcased?

Personnel management (approx. 30% of the time) :

  • Assess staffing needs, hire to replace or reassign people as needed to create effective teams;
  • Participate in setting and achieving objectives;
  • Manage team performance and implement performance improvement plans for low performers;
  • Provide ongoing, timely feedback to team members;
  • Resolve interpersonal issues, assist in conflict resolution;
  • Assist employees in their professional development, act as coach/mentor to continuously improve team members' performance and satisfaction;
  • Guide employees on a daily basis;
  • Create an agile, mutually respectful environment where individuals are confident, secure, and able to innovate;
  • Remove blockers to individual and team performance;
  • Provide continuous and timely communication on departmental issues;
  • Establish rapid and effective integration plans for new employees.

Project and process management (approx. 30% of the time) :

  • Develop goals and plans for the team and report on progress;
  • Provide estimates for planned work;
  • Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology in an Agile, Scrum/Kanban environment;
  • Ensure that all QA team members understand and execute their responsibilities;
  • Guide employees and consultants in the creation of specific deliverables (e.g. functional specifications, user interface designs, design notes, code reviews, etc.).

Technical leadership (approx. 20% of the time):

  • Develop a broad understanding of LGI products with an emphasis on products that interact with products for which primary responsibility lies;
  • Help and contribute to shaping the product vision and roadmap;
  • Work with product managers to understand product requirements;
  • Lead technical teams in their efforts to develop requirements-based specifications and designs;
  • Collaborate with technical support to assess customer issues and determine the best course of action;
  • Work as a member of the extended management team to improve departmental processes and performance;
  • Foster productive inter-departmental relationships;
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of appropriate technologies.
  • Knowledge of the following technologies is an asset:
    • Object-oriented languages.
    • Java, C#, .net core, Angular, HL7, Delphi
    • Oracle DB
    • GIT, TFS, SVN, JIRA, Confluence

Team building (approx. 20% of the time):

  • Coach team members and help them grow professionally and personally;
  • Guide the team in design and implementation techniques;
  • Increase the team's productivity and capacity to develop through training and mentoring;
  • Help the team break down complex problems into a set of simpler ones and help evaluate design alternatives;
  • Maintain high team morale through mentoring, task rotations, and workload balancing;
  • Contribute to and enhance teamwork with other departments;
  • Improve team visibility on company objectives, market, and product directions;
  • Communicate product vision and justification for changes in priorities.

Qualifications

What you will bring to LGI Healthcare Solutions to succeed in the role:

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent;
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in software engineering;
  • 7 years of experience managing local and external teams (consultants);
  • Working knowledge of software engineering methodology and best practices, including performance measurement and optimization;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite;
  • Proficiency in common software development tools;
  • Results-oriented;
  • Customer focus;
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity;
  • Excellent people management skills;
  • This position must be bilingual as the candidate will be responsible for working with documentation in both French and English and communicating, orally and in writing, with both French-speaking and English-speaking partners/clients/suppliers/colleagues.
