Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

Educational Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with educators to design and develop a comprehensive Montessori curriculum that aligns with the school's philosophy and educational goals.

 

  • Montessori Materials: Select appropriate Montessori materials and resources. Ensure the Materials are complete, well maintained, support the curriculum and meet the developmental needs of students at different levels.

 

  • Teacher Training: Provide training and professional development opportunities for Montessori educators, ensuring they are well-versed in the philosophy, curriculum, and effective teaching practices.

 

  • Observation and Evaluation: Conduct classroom observations to assess the implementation of Montessori methods and provide constructive feedback to teachers for continuous improvement.

 

  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Develop and implement ongoing assessment strategies to monitor student progress, ensuring alignment with Montessori principles of individualized and holistic development.

 

  • Curriculum Alignment: Ensure that the curriculum is aligned with relevant educational standards and guidelines while preserving the integrity of Montessori principles.

 

  • Professional Development: Stay abreast of current Montessori educational research, trends, and best practices, integrating new insights into the curriculum and teacher training programs.

 

  • Individualized Learning Plans: Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students, taking into account their unique abilities and interests.

 

  • Curriculum Review and Enhancement: Regularly review and enhance the Montessori curriculum based on feedback, assessment data, and evolving educational standards.

 

  • Data Analysis: Analyze assessment data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of the Montessori curriculum.

 

  • Report Writing: Oversee and supervise the accuracy of details in students’ reports and ensure there is conformity to the existing standards in style, formatting and others before dispatch to the customers.

 

  • Afterschool Support: Oversee and monitor Afterschool care support with a view to directing the instructors and promoting an atmosphere of enriched learning and care during after school hours

 

Administrative Support

  • Support administrative tasks, such as maintaining records, handling correspondence, and coordinating communication within the school community.

 

  • Facilities Maintenance: Direct and support with the maintenance and organization of school facilities, ensuring a safe and conducive environment for both students and staff.

 

  • Resource Procurement: Coordinate with the Administrative Team, the procurement of educational materials, supplies, and resources required for Montessori learning activities.

 

  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, emergency procedures, and relevant educational standards, collaborating with staff to address any concerns.

 

  • Records Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, attendance records, and other administrative documentation.

 

  • Event Planning:Prepare School calendar and organize and facilitate school events, meetings, enrichment activities and parent-teacher conferences, fostering effective communication and community engagement.

 

Students’ Engagement

 

  • Admissions: Collaborate with the admissions team to manage student enrollment processes, ensuring accurate record-keeping and compliance with regulatory requirements.

 

  • Class Lists: Prepare and updates class lists as and when needed.

 

  • Play dates: Effect and complete admissions play dates for new intakes.

 

  • Students Assessments: Arrange and participate in student Assessments and continuous development exercise.

 

  • Enrichment Activities: Seek and engage in external, enriching extracurricular activities for the students and aim to boost the image of the school.

 

  • Students’ Well-being: Demonstrate genuine care for the well-being of students by collaborating with teachers to create a safe and nurturing environment. Address any concerns related to student safety or happiness.

 

  • Pastoral care: Ensure that the students’ holistic needs are met and that the curriculum meets their academic and developmental needs within the school.

 

Communication and Collaboration Liaison:

 

  • Chief Liaison: Act as a liaison between parents, staff, and school leadership, providing information and addressing inquiries related to school operations.

 

  • Collaboration with Teachers: Work closely with teachers to understand their needs, provide curriculum support, and foster a collaborative environment that enhances the Montessori learning experience.

 

  • Parent Communication: Communicate curriculum goals, methods, and student progress to parents, fostering a strong partnership between the school and families.

 

  • Community Engagement: Engage with the Montessori community, attend conferences, and participate in professional organizations to stay connected with the broader Montessori educational network.

 

  • Collaboration with External Partners: Coordinate and collaborate with external organizations, businesses, and educational institutions to strengthen partnerships that benefit the school community.

 

  • Problem Resolution: Address operational issues promptly, collaborating with relevant stakeholders to find effective solutions.

 

  • Coordination with Staff: Work closely with teaching staff and administrators to facilitate the smooth operation of Montessori programs and activities.

 

Financial Responsibilities

 

  • Budgeting: Collaborate with the school administration to develop and manage the academic budget. This involves allocating funds for curriculum development, instructional resources, professional development, and other academic needs.

 

  • Resource Allocation: Prioritize and allocate financial resources to support educational programs, teaching materials, technology, and other resources essential for effective learning.

 

  • Staffing Costs: Oversee budgetary aspects related to academic staff, including faculty salaries, benefits, and professional development expenses.

 

  • Curriculum Development: Manage funds allocated for the development and improvement of the curriculum, including the purchase of educational materials, textbooks, and resources aligned with the school's academic goals.

 

  • Professional Development: Allocate resources for ongoing professional development opportunities for academic staff, ensuring they stay informed about best practices and innovative teaching methods.

 

  • Technology Integration: Budget for the integration and maintenance of educational technology, including hardware, software, and other tools that enhance the learning experience.

 

  • Compliance and Accreditation: Allocate funds to ensure compliance with educational standards, accreditation requirements, and any necessary certifications. This may involve budgeting for external assessments or audits.

 

  • Facility Needs: Collaborate with the administration to address academic-related facility needs, such as classrooms, laboratories, and other spaces that support effective teaching and learning.

 

  • Revenue sustenance: Ensure the services provided are optimal and competitive to attract and retain the right customers.

 

Ambassadorial Duty

 

  • Duty of care: Protect and contribute to the positive image of the Montessori school, enhance community relationships, and create a supportive atmosphere that aligns with the principles of Montessori education.

 

  • Open-door Policy: Maintain an approachable demeanor and an open-door policy, welcoming parents and staff to discuss matters related to school operations, safety, and general well-being.

 

  • Event Hosting: Host and organize events that bring together the school community, fostering a sense of belonging and unity. This includes parent-teacher meetings, community gatherings, and celebrations.

 

  • Visibility in the Community: Attend community events, neighborhood meetings, and engage with local businesses to enhance the school's presence and relationships within the community.

 

  • Volunteer Coordination: Coordinate and support volunteer initiatives, encouraging parents to actively participate in school activities and events.

 

  • Crisis Management: Be prepared to address and communicate effectively during crisis situations, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.

 

  • Advocacy for Montessori Philosophy: Serve as an advocate for Montessori education, explaining its principles and benefits to the broader community. Foster understanding and appreciation for the unique approach of Montessori teaching.

 

  • Feedback Collection: Actively seek feedback from parents, teachers, and students to continuously improve school operations and the overall learning environment.

 

Qualifications

Educational Qualifications:

▪ Bachelor’s Degree with knowledge of Montessori philosophy strongly preferred.

▪ Teacher Training Qualification

▪ Further post-graduate qualification in a related educational area e.g. MEd, MA, MBA (optional but preferred)

Professional Qualifications:

Professional Certification –Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

  • Minimum number of uninterrupted years of experience in school leadership - 3 years.
  • Qualified teacher with a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience.
  • At least 5 years of administrative experience in an educational setting with demonstrated leadership skills required.
