The interviewers will be paid on a casual contract basis, with payment for training and for each interview conducted (approximately $150 per interview plus travel expenses).  Up to 100 interviews will be needed in each of the two communities.

Requirements:

  • Fluent in Hindi/Fijian Hindi or Mandarin/Cantonese, including ability to read written script
  • Experience in interviewing older people is useful, but not a must as training will be provided

Topic: Prevalence of Dementia
Study participants: older adults (aged 55+)
Format: face-to-face, using a structured interview, with guidance notes

Location: the study will be conducted in two sites (Auckland and Christchurch), usually in participants’ homes, but occasionally in local health centre or in University setting.

Training will be provided, along with regular (paid) debrief meetings throughout the study period to discuss challenges and how the interviews are going.  We hope to develop a small group of keen interviewers who we can fully support throughout the study.  So the commitment will be for a minimum of 30-50 interviews, but you are welcome to do more if you would like to. It is anticipated that interviews will be completed over a 12-15 month period (planned start February 2024).

Payment is based on UoA rates at approximately $30 per hour and will include training sessions (approximately 10 hours), debriefing and ongoing training sessions, arranging interview times (contact details for participants will be supplied), conducting interviews (60-120 minutes), uploading and sending recording with notes to study team, plus travel expenses.  We anticipate that the time/payment per completed interview (including debriefing sessions) is likely to be around 5 hours/$150.  As an approximate example, the training (10 hours) and 12 completed interviews (60 hours with debriefs) would pay approximately $2000.
