SNV has been working in Viet Nam since 1995, and currently has over 30 national and international staff. SNV Viet Nam’s team works hand-in-hand with communities, government agencies, and businesses in more than 50 provinces, including the most remote and poorest areas of the country. We operate from a country head office in Hanoi and regional offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Dalat.

SNV has been selected to support the management and delivery of the Climate Resilient Coffee Farming in Vietnam. This is a five-year project sponsored by Tchibo, with the objective of promoting sustainable coffee production in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Therefore, SNV Viet Nam now requires a dynamic Project Manager (PM) with significant and demonstrative experience in the management and delivery of capacity-building and training initiatives focused on sustainable coffee production.

Job Description

The PM will manage a small team and collaborate closely with local government agencies and other local partners in Dak Lak to drive impactful change through the delivery of best-practice climate smart and sustainable coffee production training to smallholder farmers in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam.

Under the supervision of SNV Viet Nam’s Agrifood Sector Leader, the PM will provide strategic guidance, oversee financial management, supervise implementation, and coordination with Tchibo as well as government partners and other stakeholders, and ensure compliance with client regulations and requirements.

  • Lead overall project management and motivate the project team, partners, and relevant stakeholders, fostering collaboration and a shared vision.
  • Lead and manage the project establishment, including securing necessary government approvals for implementation, support staff recruitment, develop implementation manuals, work plans, budgets and competency tables.
  • Provide technical leadership on best practice climate smart and sustainable coffee production practices.
  • Lead and steer the project implementation team and participate in the project coordination meetings with the Donor, government and partner agencies.
  • Build, strengthen and manage partnerships with governmental agencies, key partners, institutions and stakeholders.
  • Develop project implementation plans, including detailed annual work planning, budget allocations, and technical assistance work plans.
  • Guide and coordinate the work of program staff, consultants and activity/sub-project contractors during program implementation, to ensure high quality and timely deliverables..
  • Ensure proper control and management of financial resources of the project, including any co-investments with private sector partners.
  • Conduct regular site monitoring visits and monitor performance to ensure all milestones set in the work plan are met, develop mitigation plans to reduce risks and take corrective actions to remedy any deviation from the work plans.
  • Account and report regularly to SNV and the Donor on project progress and performance.
  • Oversee project documentation, knowledge management and communications and branding in close collaboration with the Donor.
  • Present results and represent the project in provincial and national fora, as necessary.
  • Assist relevant government agencies and implementing partners with development of essential skills through training workshops and on the job training, thereby upgrading their delivery capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in development studies, management, agriculture, forestry, environmental sciences or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of project/project management experience, demonstrating a track record of successful results delivery in the coffee sector in Vietnam.
  • Demonstrable technical knowledge and proven expertise in the field of climate smart and sustainable coffee production.
  • Able to effectively engage and manage partners and meet tight implementation deadlines.
  • Collaborative and co-creative way of working, open-minded and adaptive in case of goal changes, puts the farmer at the center.
  • Good networking and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse organizations and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal English communication.
  • Willingness to travel to all project sites and occasionally to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or elsewhere for coffee platform or other relevant industry meetings/workshops.
