Company Description

The Brunel Academy is an SEMH provision for learners aged 11 to 16-years-old, whose needs cannot be met within a mainstream environment. The Academy provides placements for young people in the Torbay area who have an EHCP, with SEMH as their primary need.

The Brunel Academy is excited to be working with The Special Partnership Trust, with a view to joining in July 2023 and is looking forward to working closely with colleagues to bring about rapid school improvement.

Job Description

The Brunel Academy is an SEMH Special School in Paignton, Devon, 0.5 miles from the seafront. The Academy welcomes students from Year 7 to Year 11 and supports with GCSE and other qualifications so our students are able to progress into FE, Apprenticeships or work.

We are looking for a resourceful and passionate qualified teacher to support staff and teach and engage students in food & nutrition; not just to pass an exam, but to, also, be able apply their learning and to express their emotions in a therapeutic and positive way.

Our students often require support to build trusting relationships with professionals and you will have high expectations and a belief that they can succeed. You will be someone who can think outside the box with creative lessons for our onsite and offsite students, as well as bring a unique element to the team. 

Your day-to-day responsibilities will be:

  • Ensuring that the teaching area is organized appropriately to provide a safe, tidy, pleasant and stimulating environment.
  • Planning and delivering an appropriate curriculum based on individual needs having due regard to pupil entitlement.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with families/carers.

The successful candidate will:

  • be an excellent teacher of food technology, with strong subject knowledge.
  • be passionate about food & nutrition, with the ability to deliver a creative and inspiring curriculum.
  • have high expectations for all learners, irrespective of their backgrounds.
  • demonstrate high levels of resilience to support the learners who have a range of educational needs. 
  • Have the ability to teach food technology to qualification level.
  • be able to write and implement effective learning targets for pupils

Experience

  • Experience working with pupils with challenging behaviour is desirable.

Additional Information

Salary - UQR/MPR + SEN allowance of £2,384.00 per annum
