Job Description

The Speech and Language Pathologist serves as a critical member of the Special Education team by providing comprehensive assessment, educational planning and support, as well as therapy for students with speech/language communication disorders and delays. Speech and language services may be delivered in a variety of settings including self-contained, pull out, push-in, or indirect consultation. This role includes working with students ranging from grades pre-k through 10th, with a variety of needs and diagnoses including Autism, Intellectual Disability, OHI, Speech Impairment, and Language Impairment. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Assess students' communication skills (e.g. articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, etc.) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for treatment

  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with Speech/Language impairment and assist with IEPs for students with speech/language as a related service

  • Provide direct speech-language therapy services in an individual or small group setting in accordance with students’ IEPs

  • Develop AAC programming tailored to individual student(s) including matching users to AAC, establishing goals and benchmarks, training staff (e.g. teachers, paraprofessionals, OT), collecting data, overseeing maintenance of AAC, and assisting in implementation of plan 

  • Consult with teaching teams to develop and implement curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies such as visual supports, oral motor exercises, language strips, topics of conversation etc…

  • Collaborate with a variety of groups and/or individuals (e.g. parents, teachers, paraprofessionals, Director of Special Education, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, resolving issues and providing services in compliance with established guidelines

  • Maintain confidential records and provide timely reports (e.g. progress notes, service log, evaluation report) 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology

  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence. 

  • Current MO license 

  • 2+ years of school-based experience (preferred)

  • Experience with AAC (preferred)

  • Experience with Autism (preferred)

  • Pass Criminal Background Test
