Job Description
Overview
Forest Junior Kindergarten Teacher responsibilities include observing and assessing class interests, occasionally planning and implementing lessons and activities that expand on current interests, and creatively documenting class lessons to showcase the progress of the students. The Forest Junior Kindergarten Teacher will work with co-teacher to create an optimal learning environment for the students and will spend the entire class session in the outdoors in all weather, including hiking and moderate physical challenges. On Friday afternoons, Junior Kindergarten Teachers will observe Forest Kindergarten Teachers and plan with their co-teachers.
Responsibilities
Using a variety of activities (songs, stories, art, activities, etc.) to motivate and stimulate children’s abilities
Meeting the emotional, social, and physical needs of each child
Maintaining daily open communication with parents by posting photos and short narratives on our school app
Same-day documenting and distributing accident and incident reports to parents and administration
Documenting and recording children’s behaviors, progressions, and development in a weekly report form to share with the parents and administration biannually
Working with teaching team to write a monthly report of activities and learning experiences for the newsletter
Overseeing a daily site assessment of the outdoor site before each session, making sure all hazards are properly assessed and amended to provide a safe environment for children
Working with the director and teaching team to provide ideas for site enhancement
Expectations
Attendance at all planned school events, weekdays and weekends
Attendance at all staff meetings
Demonstrate loyalty and commitment to Wauhatchie School and all staff members as a positive team player
Participation in forest school research studies and daily reflective journaling
Qualifications
Associate or undergraduate degree in education or related field; and/or relevant training for this position
Documented experience working with children aged 4-5
Ability and desire to encourage experiences that are play-based and child-centered
Deep appreciation for and connection to nature
Highly relational and effective collaborator and communicator
