About New Yorkers for Children:

New Yorkers for Children (NYFC) improves the well-being of youth and families in the child welfare system with an emphasis on older youth aging out of the system.  NYFC provides direct educational, financial and emotional support and develops programs to fill gaps in the system in partnership with foster care agencies, community organizations, and the NYC Administration for Children’s Services.

NYFC is a $6.7 million hybrid nonprofit that operates direct scholarship programs for over 1,000 foster youth annually while also managing over 30+ grants with promising program practices in the field of NYC child welfare. Half of its annual budget is dedicated to subgrants to community partners or expert consultants.  Most recently, NYFC has been highlighted for its trailblazing efforts in ensuring that youth aging out of foster care have access to unconditional cash transfers and it is a leading advocate for Universal Basic Income for all youth aging out of foster care.

Job Description

About the Position:

New Yorkers For Children (NYFC) seeks an experienced, compassionate, and informed individual to serve as the Manager of Youth Programs. The Manager of Youth Programs is responsible for both direct service and administrative duties. The Manager of Youth Programs will support the design of strategic programs, manage youth activity, and expand NYFC’s signature programs. Reporting to NYFC’s Director of Programs, the Manager of Youth Programs will provide support for all NYFC signature programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Case Management

  • Carry an active caseload of scholars and meet monthly across signature programs.
  • Manage individual youth cases, including meetings, referrals, and coordination with school, foster care agency, and other providers.
  • Monitor all aspects of youth programs, including participant recruitment, enrollment, orientation and academic success;
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented populations.
  • Knowledge of post-secondary institutions, admissions, scholarships and financial aid process for low-income and underrepresented youth.
  • Familiarity with the administration and interpretation of standardized testing for basic skills and college placement examinations.
  • Meets once monthly with Nick’s Scholars and provides academic advising, and career and personal counseling.
  • Assists Scholars with setting academic, professional, and personal goals and developing individual plans to achieve their goals.
  • Coordinates and conducts workshops focusing on academic success and college preparation.
  • Monitors students’ program participation, academic progress and in-school attendance.
  • Develop collegial relationships with NYC foster care agencies, serve as an advocate.
  • Support supervision, operations, programming and evaluation of programs including program planning, program development and implementation, supportive counseling/case management and assessment.

Program Management/Strategy and Innovation

  • Utilize NYFC’s existing Logic and Program Models to ensure outcomes are tracked and benchmarks met.
  • Design and produce reports for dissemination to key stakeholders.
  • Maintains and prepares student case notes and records attendance at program activities.
  • Experience in student leadership and mentoring programs.
  • Makes recruitment presentations targeted to foster care agency staff, students and community partners.
  • Reviews applications and participates in applicant interviews along with Director of Programs and Executive Director.
  • Assists in the tracking of program alumni.
  • Track student progress and provide consistent documentation/progress notes about observed student needs and recording in Salesforce.
  • Collect and monitor quantitative and qualitative data on program outcomes, and performance trends.
  • Responsible for data entry and maintaining files and documentation of youth information.
  • Assist the Director of Programs in preparing progress/program reports, managing program data, achieving deliverables as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information.
  • Conduct outreach to youth and agencies on various programs offered by NYFC.
  • Prepare standard reports on programs as needed.
  • Act as liaison and information resource for emergency funds applicant’s ad foster care agencies
  • Supervise and manage other direct service staff as needed.
  • Must be willing to travel to several New York City schools for training, meetings and events.
  • Working and demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office including Publisher, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Must be flexible to work one evening per month and an occasional weekend.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field from an accredited institution required.
  • Three years of experience working with TRIO programs and/or high school students, parents and college residential programs.
  • An interest in child welfare and youth development.
  • Self-starter with the ability to be a proactive, flexible, and creative problem solver in a fast-paced work environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to connect with people, provide needed support and demonstrate patience and maintain positive attitude.
  • Personal qualities of integrity and commitment to and passion for NYFC’s mission.

Additional Information

Location is New York City with a flexible hybrid schedule - NYFC offers employees a hybrid work model wherein all employees may elect to work from home on some days. Employees are expected to come into the office on some days or they may be required to attend in-person meetings or site visits depending on their job duties.
