Our engineering organization makes sure that Flink delivers the best in class service to our customers. Platform Engineering is responsible for engineering productivity and enables the product teams to be highly efficient in building, deploying and running solutions reliable at scale. In your role as an Engineering manager (m/f/d) you will build and grow the platform team composed of software engineers and site reliability engineers to build products that enable the other product teams.

Job Description

The Platform team is building products that provide the tooling and expertise to enhance the productivity of our engineers by removing their need to be concerned about infrastructure, deployments, observability, CI/CD and more:

  • Drive the delivery of enablers and capabilities for your team, including planning and execution
  • Apply pragmatic solutions, find the right tradeoffs, and seek to reduce complexity to help teams deliver solutions that meet the business needs
  • Work super close with the other teams' Product and Engineering Leadership to ensure actionable and valuable work is defined for the team
  • Drive external and internal hiring across engineering, develop our engineering talent into new challenges and roles, establish a feedback culture within the team, manage the performance of team members and ensure we retain our top engineering talent
  • Translate product and business vision into a platform vision and strategy for your team including the architectural direction and execute against that vision with your team
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of software (you build it, you run it), including team ownership of monitoring and incident management of production issues 
  • Keep product and engineering quality  high and continuously identify and resolve technical debt, quality issues, and gaps in engineering practices
  • Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices that are the right fit for a platform team and help develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices
  • Create a healthy culture of collaboration and inclusion, lead by example in line with the engineering and company values
  • Focus on applying best-in-class industry practices to continue to raise the bar on providing developer delight and speed of delivery for the teams

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience as an engineering leader in a horizontal platform team mentoring and growing successful teams
  • A bias towards action, with the ability to make the tradeoffs between delivering outcomes  and making things perfect
  • A strong interest in the actual customer and business problems to solve
  • A desire to build a diverse team that wins together and prioritizes success
  • Significant experience in applying different architecture patterns like microservices, event-driven systems, micro frontends, etc
  • Adept at developing in one or more common programming languages such as Go, Java and/or Python
  • Being a good listener, but also argue for the cause when needed
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to deal with change
  • Highly self-driven, professional personality with an aspiration to excel in your role
  • Capable of taking a helicopter view of things to get the big picture while getting into details when needed, but understanding when it is appropriate doing so
  • Fluency in English
