Summary: The Blair College of Health at Queens University of Charlotte invites applications for a full time Assistant or Associate Professor, 9‐month faculty position in Sport Management beginning August 2023 for the 2023-2024 academic year.

We seek an energetic, collaborative faculty member who will contribute to the student experience and the mission of the department and college.

The major in Sport Management leading to the Bachelor of Science degree at Queens University of Charlotte prepares students for a variety of exciting sport-related careers. Students learn to plan, organize, establish, lead, and appraise within an organization or sector whose primary product and/or service is sport. The curriculum examines all levels of sport: community, youth, high school, collegiate, amateur, and professional. Students are prepared for entry-level sport management career opportunities and further study at the graduate level. An emphasis of this goal is to become an effective leader positively influencing others through sport and sport-related programming.

The Sport Management program is housed in the department of Kinesiology. The faculty member will report to the Chair of the Kinesiology Department. Primary teaching responsibility will be with undergraduate students in the Sport Management program. Additional teaching responsibilities may include teaching in the nationally distinctive Queens General Education or its Honors programs. Queens’ faculty also have the opportunity to propose and lead study abroad programs. This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

The Department of Kinesiology is committed to inclusive and innovative undergraduate teaching. Queens is also pursuing a multidisciplinary data analytics initiative to strengthen students’ quantitative skills.  The ability to contribute to this strategic initiative through programming, quantitative methods, and relevant experience in creating similar high-impact educational opportunities is welcome.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

In this role, the successful candidate will:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Sport Management curriculum (specifically Introduction to Sport Management, Sport Finance, Sport Marketing, Sport Governance, Sport Law, Facilities and Event Management, Capstone Writing and Research Methods, Internship Experiences
  • Engagement in curriculum design and assessment within the program
  • Conduct research leading to presentations and publications
  • Commitment to professional development, scholarship, professional service, and maintenance of professional credentials
  • The ability to provide academic and career advising to students
  • High quality communication and collaboration with colleagues and students
  • Commitment and contribution to the University’s mission and strategic plans
  • Willingness to develop and maintain a network within the industry to facilitate student engagement with industry professionals particularly in the Charlotte market
  • Regular presence on campus and in the lab, and office hours

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet department and/or university goals

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required

An earned doctoral degree Sport Management or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications and Expectations:

  • Classroom and online undergraduate teaching experience
  • Theoretical and applied knowledge in the field of Sport Management
  • Passion for undergraduate education of traditional and post‐traditional adult students at all levels of proficiency, demonstrating knowledge of effective and innovative teaching methods
  • The ability to make connections across disciplines and in the community on behalf of students and the university, including the development of internships beneficial to the student experience
  • Knowledge of program assessment, curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation
  • The ability to conduct research and mentor students at the undergraduate level in this area

Work Conditions 

  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to meet requirements of the position, including teaching night or weekend classes.
