Our Graduate Development Programme  

Our 24-month Graduate Development Programme (GDP) provides you with a structured learning environment to help you become a well-rounded consultant and accelerate your career.

The GDP starts with a formal induction, giving you the opportunity to start building your internal networks and deepen your understanding of Turner & Townsend and your service area.

On joining you will be provided with a structured development plan which introduces you to the key business, technical and commercial competencies graduates need to succeed at Turner & Townsend. This gives you the necessary tools to manage and monitor your personal and professional development and progress. Throughout the programme you will be partnered with a Graduate Development Manager who will provide support and guidance to ensure you are on track.

As well as ‘on-the-job' learning, you will benefit from technical and behavioural training, providing you with the knowledge and skills to support you in your personal development. Alongside this you will be given the opportunity to pursue professional qualifications with organisations such as RICS, APM, CMI, IMEA, ICE and CIOB (depending on your technical discipline).

The GDP provides:

  • A platform to enhance knowledge and gain first-hand experience; 
  • A plan to support and capture your learning and development needs and achievements; and,  
  • The tools to track and report your personal development. 

Job Description

Consulting sits within our advisory business with two main areas of focus; Asset and Facilities Management and Programme Performance. If successful you could work in one of these teams or both across the two-year programme.

Assets & Facilities Management

 The Asset & Facilities Management team’s purpose is to help clients manage their built assets in the most effective and efficient way, helping them to make the right investment and operational decisions to get the most out of their investment.

The Assets & Facilities Management team is primarily made up of Real Estate Business Case Authors, Workplace Consultants, Strategic Facilities Management Consultants, Technical Facilities Management Consultants, Strategic Estates Consultants, Change Management and more general real estate management consultants.

As a graduate it is likely you will gain experience in many role areas. For instance:

Real Estate Consulting:

The Real Estate Consulting team is focused on providing high-value, independent, trusted advice to our clients, that deliver and embed sustained performance improvement.

Our client work focuses on corporate occupiers, both public and private sector, real estate investors and developers, property companies, landowners, and service providers.  For example, we work with government departments, local authorities, housing providers, NHS trusts, financial service companies, utilities companies, plus across the retail, manufacturing, and technology sectors.

We help our clients understand, capture, and improve both the financial and non-financial performance of their real estate portfolios, in particular ensuring performance is aligned to business goals and organisational objectives.  As an independent advisor, recognised as a leader in the Real Estate sector, we draw on our extensive global and industry experience to manage real estate risk and create value for our clients.

Facilities Management Consulting:

Our client’s operations vary from small estates through to multinationals and are all challenged to become leaner, more efficient, to provide more efficient FM (Facilities Management) services, whilst reducing costs, to outsource or insource their non-core activities all in compliance with defined standards.

Our team help clients optimise their FM services; from aligning the FM strategy with that of their business, through the development of operational structures and processes to the procurement of the best possible supply chain supported by efficient and effective performance management tools.

We turn FM data into insights to confidently make informed decisions faster, achieving higher levels of performance and minimising risk for our clients.

Workplace Consulting:

Our team supports organisations on how to optimise their estates, by developing workplace and workforce strategies. Ensuring that any change is managed through a change management process that enhances the ‘business as usual’ whilst further developing the organisations workplace.

Programme Performance

We have a rapidly growing dedicated Programme and Performance team that sits within a wider organisation that is embedding digitalisation within programme delivery. The Programme and Performance offers the chance to work for incredible clients across a wide range of sectors, including rail, defence, central and local government, healthcare, and many more.

Risk Manager

Working with clients you will embark on the journey to understand what makes a good Risk SME. You will gain an understanding of why companies do risk management and how it helps them in their decision making.

You will be exposed to the human aspect of risk through supporting in risk workshops all the way to the data aspect of risk by supporting quantitative risk analysis.

Change Management

Operating within a change and transformation role you will have to understand the need for organisational change to be able to develop their desired state, including benefits realisation and process requirements while appreciating their people and their competencies within the area you are making the change in. You need to engage with stakeholders across the operational, strategic, and executive levels of an organisation to understand existing issues and provide solutions. You should develop an appropriate communication plan through engagement with stakeholders, creating the optimal narrative to engage users and ensure the transformation is as clear and continuous as possible, with minimal disruption to the organisation.

Some other examples of skills you could develop include:

  • Quantitative Risk Analysis

  • Running risk workshops

  • Utilisation of risk systems

  • Understanding of change management models 

Throughout the 2-year programme, a graduate consultant would work on multiple commissions, and rotate through a variety of roles. This provides you with the opportunity to better understand what field you might specialise following the graduate programme. During this time, we will also provide additional training for you to learn and develop new technical skills.

We are looking for people who are:

  • Interested in the construction industry across both infrastructure and real estate

  • Aware of current environmental issues and keen to work towards a more sustainable future across the construction industry

  • Keen to help assist and ensure the successful delivery of project plans

  • Holds a keen eye for observing details and the smaller thing

Qualifications

  • 2:1 or above in your undergraduate degree.
  • 2:2 or above in undergraduate degree if you hold a RICS accredited Masters or construction related masters.
  • Right to live and work in the UK (we are unable to offer visa sponsorship).

In some regional roles being able to drive will be necessary due to the location of client offices.  Please also note this is not a remote role as we operate a hybrid working approach you will need to be willing and able to work in a Turner & Townsend office or a client site. 

To be considered for roles in the Defence arena you will need to pass both a Baseline Personnel Security Standard check and UKSV SC clearance – this process will initiated once you have accepted an offer and have indicated you are happy to go through these checks.  A summary of the checks involved can be found here.
