Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity  

Are you excited by the prospect of preserving and enabling access to Aotearoa New Zealand’s social and political history through broadcast media? Media Services houses internationally significant broadcast media archives including the Chapman Archive of news and current affairs and extensive Māori language television collections. This fixed term/secondment role will see you take on responsibility for our keystone Chapman news archive collection and a range of digitisation initiatives. In this hands-on role, you will also implement and support Media Services technology (both analogue and digital; hardware and software) to ensure the smooth operation of media services collections and access workflows. Please note that this role is called (Digital Collections Specialist) internally.

Waipapa Taumata Rau is values-led in our relationships, creating genuine opportunities for the communities we serve to engage in ethical and responsible partnerships. You’ll bring your experience of working closely with a wide range of stakeholders, and Mātauranga Māori and Pasifika collections, to develop a cultural permissions process that enables appropriate access to materials cared for by the Cultural Collections team. You’re a people person who recognises the importance of the collection in learning, teaching and research and you will lead outreach activities that highlight the collection, ensuring that relationships are developed and deepened with Māori and Pacific communities.

The salary range for this role is $58,500 - $68,200 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week, fixed term for 18 months.

Qualifications

He kōrero mōu | About you 

Our ideal candidate will have: 

  • A degree in a library and information related, archives or equivalent discipline. 
  • Proven collection management experience within a complex working environment. 
  • Demonstrated skills and experience with a range of digital technologies, both hardware and software (experience with audio-visual technologies preferred). 
  • Proven communication skills and experience. 
  • Demonstrated experience in a digital archives context. 
  • An understanding of Aotearoa New Zealand’s copyright context and experience with rights agreements.
