Job Description

We are now looking for a Working Student - Climate Data Operations to join our Science and Data Team.

In this role, you will support our Science and Data Team by identifying reliable and relevant data sources and methodologies, ingressing of data, and reviewing the data additions. You’ll use your knowledge and skills to maintain and expand our Open Emission Factors Database (OEFDB). The OEFDB is an open-access database of emission factors, which is constantly updated by contributors across the spectrum of sustainability researchers and professionals. It is freely available to all and maintained and validated by Climatiq. 


Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Science and Data team on various tasks including maintaining the Open Emissions Factors Database, collecting and normalising new data points, researching and analysing new and existing sources of data, support the review process.  
  • Validation and quality assurance of the database. 
  • Support with researching new sources of data and methodologies.
  • Support the team by establishing and fostering connections to relevant academic institutions and enhancing collaboration with the scientific community.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled (or recent graduate) in Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability Science or related disciplines
  • Proficient with Excel and Google Sheets. Experience working with large datasets and data processing is required
  • Comfortable with GitHub-based collaborative workflows
  • Git, Python, in particular familiarity with pandas will be an advantage
  • Familiarity with carbon footprinting methodologies, GHG emissions accounting, LCA framework, climate policy and science around it highly desired
  • Solid understanding of how different sectors (i.e. energy, transportation, buildings, water etc.) contribute to global emissions
  • Great attention to detail is essential
  • Proactive, passionate and curious about solving big and complex problems. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Fluent English, additional languages a plus 
     

Additional Information

  • Location: Berlin, Remote friendly (within +/- 2 hours of CET timezone), but requires physical presence in Berlin from time to time 
  • Starting date: as soon as possible
  • Hours: flexible working hours
