We are looking for startup-minded team players who are comfortable with ambiguity and fast-paced collaboration to join our remote team that is distributed across multiple cities (Guadalajara, Mexico City, Acapulco, San Francisco). You will join a team who is focused on doing good and doing well for our customers. Engineering and Product Design (EPD) closely partner with each other daily, and consult just as often with our operations, marketing, and medical team members to create customer-focused solutions for our Hispanic community.

As the Director of Engineering on the MiSalud team, you will:

Be the leader of the engineering team, building the most impactful products in partnership with the product design team, to:

• Manage, lead, inspire and collaborate with a team of engineers as a player/coach at a fast moving startup integral to closing the health equity gap for the Hispanic community

• Span from the micro view to macro view: lead from the front and write code, scope new products, make company-wide presentations, present to potential customers and investors – you will be able to make small contributions that carry a big impact. 

• Be adaptable and lean in how you lead our engineering team and processes without sacrificing quality or scalability 

• Be customer obsessed by proactively bringing data to drive customer-centric decisions because everything we build enables our socios to have better health outcomes

Lead the technical vision of MiSalud

• Partner with the Chief Product Officer to define and execute the customer-focused technical vision for our products

• Collaborate with our cross-functional teams at all levels to enable seamless releases, scoping and planning, and enabling an effective customer enablement process.

Requirements

• 7-10 years proven experience in team-first leadership and ability to coach and grow team members, more specifically:

  • Experience as a leader in a fast-growing startup, scaling from a few folks to a ~100.

  • Have led or worked closely with cross-discipline engineering teams (BE, FE, QA, SRE, Security)

• Technical expertise in at least 2 of the following, with general experience in the rest:

  • Experience in our current stack: React, ionic/capacitor, nodeJS, Go, GCP

  • Cloud infrastructure and serverless

  • Building secure, compliant b2b or b2c platforms as part of the development process (for example: HITRUST, ISO 270001, SOC 2, HIPAA)

  • Designing microservices architecture and applications with main focus on easy and faster deployment, scalability, maintainability

• Experience leading customer-facing on-call processes with b2b SLAs

• Lead by example as a pragmatic, integrity-driven leader who:

  • Has a bias for action and experiments with best practices to improve every phase of our work from product development to delivery

  • Is resourceful and lean 

  • Makes decisions with a customer-centric focus, as we approach our products customer-first at MiSalud

  • Is a team player and collaborator with cross-functional teams like product design, marketing, and operations

• Spanish and English fluent, given our product is Spanish-first and bilingual

• Ability to travel 10-20% of the time to Guadalajara and/or Mexico City for team offsites and work sessions 

• Working with our local teams in Guadalajara and Mexico City in the office about one day per week, though we are a remote team the remainder of the time

Nice to have

• Experience building products for a health tech company

• Experience in Big Data and AI, so we can take advantage of our pool of data and implement AI driven features that will provide a better service to our customers, reduce costs, and make MiSalud a telehealth leader

• An external reputation as a tech leader, speaker and/or blogger to share MiSalud’s best practices and build our reputation as a high quality, mission-driven engineering team
