Job Description

Vermilion is looking for an experienced (8+ years) Digital Director with digital marketing, strategy and leadership experience to drive growth in our digital services. As the Digital Director, you will oversee a small team of strategists and performance marketers who are responsible for crafting and executing omnichannel marketing campaigns across a variety of channels including:

  • Digital advertising (SEM, Social, Display, Native, Video, Streaming Audio, OTT/CTV)
  • SEO
  • Website and landing page development 
  • Analytics implementation (GA4 and event/goal tracking)
  • Email marketing
  • eCommerce (primarily Shopify and WooCommerce

While you may not be actively managing campaigns day-to-day, in order to successfully provide insights, recommendations, and leadership to the team, specific skills are essential for success: prior hands-on experience managing paid campaigns, sourcing audience insights, media planning and strategy development, and reporting analysis.

In addition to providing thought leadership and direction to the team, this role will also be essential in helping the agency win new digital marketing business by partnering with the Business Development team as well as expanding our digital service offerings to existing clients through compelling presentations and identification of new opportunities. To be successful you must demonstrate a passion for marketing innovation, stay on top of emerging trends, and growing digital services.

Responsibilities:

LEADERSHIP: This position will oversee the growth and development of this department, including identifying opportunities to optimize our mix of services based on trends and demand. Lead in recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes, and provide guidance and constructive feedback to Digital team members.

NEW BUSINESS: Help secure new business proposals by actively engaging in the new business process within the larger Vermilion team.

STRATEGY: Guiding holistic campaign development, including strategy and recommendations across all channels (traditional and digital).

MEDIA PLANNING: Experience using forecasting tools, benchmarking data, keyword, and audience research to support the Media Planning team with development of hypotheses and strategies for client-facing materials and reports.

PAID MEDIA MANAGEMENT: Prior experience in media performance, audience targeting capabilities, tracking implementation, and budget management is critical to successfully support the Performance Marketing team in their day-to-day campaign management.

CLIENT COMMUNICATION: Must be adept at speaking to clients about their campaigns, translating key insights and focusing on what will really move the needle and improve performance.

RESEARCH: Must display a deep curiosity for understanding the latest trends in digital channels, marketing tools, and best practices. Provide opportunities for knowledge sharing among the Digital team and the larger agency team.

CREATIVE: Assist with providing executable and innovative campaign ideas, creative suggestions, and audience insights as part of larger brainstorming sessions with the Creative team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of experience supporting and leading digital marketing campaigns and projects (prior agency experience preferred)
  • 4+ years directly overseeing other digital professionals
  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing tools, campaign strategies, audience targeting capabilities, best practices, and organizational systems
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of digital marketing, including SEO, paid search, display, video, email marketing, social media marketing, content marketing and creative development, and analytics and reporting
  • Hands-on experience planning, executing, managing, and reporting on campaigns using multiple platforms and tools:
    • Google Analytics, Google Ads, Paid Social (Meta, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter), Google Search Console, SEO Tools (e.g., SEMRush, Moz, Yoast SEO plugin), Reporting & Data Visualization (e.g., Google Data Studio, TapClicks), ESPs (e.g., MailChimp, Klaviyo)
  • Additional preferred experience (not required):
    • Experience with conversion tracking setup (Google Tag Manager, Google Optimize)
    • Experience with Paid eCommerce, including Google Merchant Center and Google Shopping campaigns
    • Experience with at least one social media management software tool (e.g. Buffer, HootSuite, Sprout Social)
