The American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) is a nonprofit organization composed of health care professionals committed to the practice of genetics and genomics.  ACMG was incorporated in 1991 to give national representation to providers of genetic services and their patients with genetic disorders and to speak for the emerging specialty of medical genetics in organizations and agencies concerned with medical service, certification, and regulatory issues. ACMG provides education, resources, and a voice for the medical genetics profession and its mission is to improve health through genetics and genomics.

Job Description

The ACMG is starting a new gold open access journal titled Genetics in Medicine Open, and the search is underway for an Editor-in-Chief (EIC). Genetics in Medicine Open is intended as a broad scope, international journal with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The new EIC will help determine the scope and direction of the Journal and is responsible for its scientific content by determining manuscripts to be reviewed, evaluating reviewer's input, and selecting final manuscripts for publication.

The EIC will work with the Executive Managing Editor to direct all interactions with the publisher (Elsevier), review budgets submitted by the publisher, and evaluate the performance of the publisher for the College. The EIC serves as a member of the ACMG Board of Directors and presents triannual reports to the Board. The EIC chooses the Editorial Board of the Journal, determines their duties, and presides over Editorial Board meetings held semi-annually.

The EIC is selected by the Board of Directors of the College for a term of five years, renewable once. The new EIC will be selected by September 2022 and begin commissioning and receiving manuscripts on October 1, 2022. Applicants should be accomplished scientists or academic physicians in the field of human genetics, members of the ACMG, and have a broad appreciation of the role genetics plays in all areas of medicine. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is a largely sedentary position that requires the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. The selected candidate must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations with the ability to observe details at a close range (within a few feet of the observer) and lift small objects up to 20 lbs. across the office for various needs.
