Job Description

Arcadis IBI Group is seeking a talented Engineering Systems Designer for our Toronto office’s Intelligence Sector team and may be home based from Southern Ontario!  As an Engineering Systems Designer, you will be involved in the design of engineering systems and supporting communications networks. You will be part of a growing sector and teamed with a collaborative, passionate, talented and innovative individuals.

As part of the Intelligence Sector, there will be opportunities to work on transformative areas where systems background is vital such as electrification, asset management, connected vehicles, infrastructure rehabilitation, mobility and digital transformation.

These systems are developed for government, institutional, and commercial clients. You will also have the opportunity to support design of Transportation Mobility, Cybersecurity and Smart City initiatives. Typical systems this team designs are for Communications, Electronic Tolling, Network Switching, ITS, Public Address and Security; and associated coordination with electrical, lighting, fire, HVAC and other specialty systems that can be found within complex large-scale engineering projects.

Some recognizable projects that the team has been successful with are British Columbia Ministry of Transportation, MDOT and Infrastructure, Ontario Power Generation, RCMP, Canadian Border Security Agency.

Your office base would be out of the Corporate Head office at Yonge and St. Clair in Toronto and have the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary office with Engineering, Architecture, Planning. Building Systems and Software Development!  There will be flexibility for remote working once the initial phase of integration with the team is established.

Most Of The Things You'll Work On:

  • Engineering Design Development of innovative and integrated large-scale and complex systems involving state-of-the-art proven technologies. Take responsibility on project deliverables, prepare drawings and specifications for Design and Construction phases. Review as-built drawings and documents from other disciplines.  Issue Addenda’s and respond to RFI’s. Day-to-day correspondence with team members and clients. Support Senior staff on project initiatives.
  • Keep up to date on Technological Advancements as related to integrated systems with a converged architecture including Mobility, Intelligent Transportation, Cybersecurity, Security, Wired and Wireless Communications Technologies, Copper and Fiber cabling, etc.; as well as product releases and their applications.

Qualifications

You'll need to have:

  • Engineering education from a University or College with experience will be acceptable.
  • Experience within engineering design consulting process and field oversight is heavily preferred. A strong understanding of built environment using systems, techniques, methodologies, industry standards, building codes, construction administration common to systems development. Possess four (4) to eight (8) years of experience in integrated systems comprised of multiple sub-systems on single or multiple communications backbone.
  • Experience in large-scale complex systems involving IP based systems, Network Video Management, IoT, OT, Access Control, Intrusion Detection, Perimeter Detection, Analytics and Machine Learning. Knowledge of engineering principles from architectural, electrical, mechanical, computer, structural disciplines. Application of provincial, national codes and AHJ as applicable to engineering construction and life safety. Broad based systems product knowledge and ability to perform in-depth analysis for client feasibility.  
  • Able to generate engineering documents such as conceptual plans, device floor plans, block diagrams and risers with minimal supervision. Able to perform engineering calculations and analysis to support design. Comfortable in presenting design and cost options to the internal team and external clients using power point or other software.
  • Participate in design reviews, report writing, shop drawings reviews, construction site visits and verifications for system solutions. Understand industry best practices in North America and ability to make recommendations based on quality and value.
  • Proactive, dynamic and a quick-thinker with strong interpersonal communication skills; an effective communicator both verbal and in written form to all levels within client organizations. Ability to coordinate and lead with other engineering disciplines, project managers and clients.  Comfortable with client-facing roles and delivery-based environment.
  • Experienced on: AutoCAD and/or REVIT; MS Office, Word, Excel, Visio, Power Point.
  • Requires driver license and be able to travel to US. Be able to apply for Police clearance and have a clean record. 
  • Travel 20-50% based project commitments. Travel expenses with will be covered through company policy Ability to travel as required for the projects; and have a driver’s license and able to drive to client locations
  • Be able to undertake a security clearance checks as warranted by the special projects and clients.
