Our team at the beautiful Downtown Tasting Room is expanding and we are seeking new Jr. Sous Chef! Our Culinary Division is offering up to $2,000 of relocation assistance and a $1000 hiring bonus!

The Jr. Sous Chef is responsible for all culinary dishes that are prepared in their section/ department focus. Because of this, a successful person in this role must be very knowledgeable about his or her specialty, as well as culinary functions in general. This candidate must also be very organized and comfortable working in a high-pressure environment. A Jr. Sous Chef must also be able to give clear orders within their section, as well as reliably carry out orders handed down to them by the Chef de Cuisine and Executive Chef. This person must be able to exhibit leadership, mentorship and train staff and will be able to multitask and plan for the future while managing simultaneously day by day projects.

Job Description

  • The Jr. Sous Chef’s primary role is to oversee the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food related to the day program at the Downtown Tasting Room location
  • Assist with daily kitchen prep work and station set-up prior to service and maintaining the highest quality food preparation standards
  • Duties associated with this role: preparing, cooking, and presenting culinary dishes; enforcing strict health and hygiene standards in the kitchen; and trouble-shooting any problems that may arise
  • Works with TRM Manager & Assistant Manager to build and maintain a cohesive program between the front and back of the house
  • Controls cost, efficiency, inventory & places orders with Exec Chef and or vendors
  • Works with Executive and Sous Chef to build and develop events and grab and go
  • Assists with training staff in their department 
  • Responsible for maintaining organization of walk-ins, dry storage and other kitchen storage areas
  • Responsible for ensuring that needed ingredients are ordered
  • Collaborates with Executive Chef and Chef de Cuisine to create seasonal appropriate dishes
  • Supports the Restaurant with prep & execution of Events, Lunch, Dinner, Breakfast and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday programs
  • Proactively selects seasonal plantings for the garden based on Restaurant menu
  • Maintains the JUSTIN garden and harvests vegetables & fruits for use in the kitchen and communicates what is available in the garden and what will be ready soon to the culinary team

Qualifications

  • 1+ years fine dining culinary experience
  • 1+ years management experience preferred
  • Culinary Degree Required
  • Serv-Safe Certified
  • Proficient in Menu design and Cost Control
  • Demonstrated strong ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to establish direction, obtain commitment and execute appropriate logistical processes
  • Comfortable in dealing with guests and purveyors on a daily basis
  • Exceptional attention to detail, and be passionate about food and wine
  • Must thrive in a fast paced working environment
  • Have a calm and approachable demeanor
  • Superb time management and organizational skills
  • COVID vaccination will be required for this position unless candidate has a legally valid exemption
