The Stonehaven School currently enrolls students in kindergarten through tenth grade, and will be adding the eleventh and twelfth grade in the coming two years. Job Description

The goal of a classical educator is to instill a passion for learning in a child that will never cease to burn. Our teachers are not forming and shaping a person that can do something but rather a person that can be someone. We are training students for God's calling on their life, preparing them well through a Christ-centered classical education to fulfill their calling for the honor and glory of God. One of the most important components to successfully educating our students is the hiring of great teachers!

We are accepting applications for a full-time Upper School Math & Science Teacher to begin work in July 2022. Key teacher attributes and job responsibilities are as follows: 

Candidate Attributes

  • Devoted to consistent reading and study of God’s word and prayer.
  • Strives to consistently exhibit love, joy, peace, and spiritual maturity in their daily work and relationships with others in the school.
  • All staff members will strive to maintain a faithful daily walk with Christ and be active in a local Protestant church.
  • Exhibits a love of learning as characterized by continuing education through readings, workshops, conferences, etc. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Teaches universal integration of subject matter within the Upper School (7th through 12th grade), with a passion for the disciplines of Math and Science.
  • Instructs a combination of the following class offerings, depending upon his/her unique combination of experience, capability, and interests: 
  • Science: 2-3 of the following courses: Middle School Earth and/or Physical Science, High School Chemistry and/or Physics
  • Math: 1-2 of the following math courses: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, or Calculus
  • Strives to apply the philosophy and methods of classical Christian education in students through a distinctly Christ-centered classical approach to education.
  • Provides an orderly teaching environment by consistently enforcing class rules and the school’s discipline policies.
  • Plans lessons and submits lesson plans as prescribed by the Head of School in order to achieve course objectives.
  • Uses a variety of assignments to measure student learning.
  • Keeps students, parents, and teacher administration adequately informed of deficiencies and gives sufficient notice of failure.
  • Demonstrates a biblical approach to their work evidenced by punctuality, cheerful and compliant attitude, attention to duties, appearance, etc., and follows the guidelines as set forth in the Staff Handbook.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have either relevant teaching experience or work experience in a related field, with a demonstrated dedication to students at the middle and high school level. While experience with a Christ-centered classical school is desirable, all candidates who embrace our mission and vision are welcome to apply. It is our desire that candidates are excited about building, strengthening, and growing our Upper School and will be eager to get involved beyond the classroom as need and opportunity arises. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a reputable undergraduate institution
  • The ideal candidate will have experience via instruction, work, or extensive study with the subject matter being taught: Science and/or Math. 
  • Accepts without verbal or mental reservations The Stonehaven School’s Statement of Faith and Academic Philosophy and is committed to upholding both.
  • Serves Christ under the authority of a local Protestant Christian church whose beliefs and teachings are in fundamental agreement with The Stonehaven School’s Statement of Faith.
  • It is expected that the staff member will comply with all applicable policies of The Stonehaven School and with all administrative directives.
  • Staff members are expected to enroll their own school-aged children at The Stonehaven School.
  • Teachers at The Stonehaven School are expected to possess a love for God, a love for the students they teach, a love for their subject matter, a love for the parents they serve, and a love for the school.

Additional Information

We support the continuing growth and development of The Stonehaven School’s teachers through our own personalized Teacher Certification program. This program has three certification levels: Provisional, Permanent, and Masters.
