Agency Description

The Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service (MOCEVS) is committed to increasing long term, sustainable civic engagement throughout the city. To support this goal, we offer a variety of training opportunities for community members, nonprofit partners and City agencies. In addition, we support internal and cross-sector convening and collaboration to reduce silos and increase efficiency and efficacy of engagement and volunteer programs and tactics. MOCEVS is housed within the Mayor’s Office of Public Engagement.

Job Description

The Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service is committed to reducing barriers and expanding national service opportunities as a community based solution for the city of Philadelphia. To support this goal, we have secured a number of grant opportunities to implement an AmeriCorps Emergency Fund that will support AmeriCorps members serving with Philadelphia- based programs. Our goal is to support approximately 130 AmeriCorps members in the first year. The AmeriCorps Emergency Fund Coordinator will serve as a strategic partner for this work in a number of key ways:

  1. The AmeriCorps Emergency Fund Coordinator will manage the coordination of an emergency fund situated in the Mayor’s fund. This includes assessing member emergency needs, dispersing funds in a timely status, and managing MOU contracts for programs to financially sustain the emergency fund
  2. The AmeriCorps Emergency Fund Coordinator will provide strategic vision and oversight to financially sustain the emergency fund overtime
  3. The AmeriCorps Emergency Fund Coordinator will serve as a support system for AmeriCorps members facing personal challenges during their term of service. They will provide referrals and connections to social providers in Philadelphia to meet the immediate needs of members 

Essential Functions

●        Manage communications and distribution of the emergency fund

●        Assess challenges, needs and barriers faced by AmeriCorps members

●        Provide proactive and responsive support to AmeriCorps members across programs including public benefits enrollment and navigation, make referrals to social service agencies, provide individual coaching and support the social-emotional needs of AmeriCorps members

●        Establish a fundraising plan and process for programs and alumni to continually contribute and help fundraise for the AmeriCorps Emergency Fund

●        Collect and track retention data and desired outcomes for the Service Year Alliance Challenge grant

●        Engage National Service Task Force program stakeholders and program partners to provide feedback on this new initiative 

●       Other activities to support the general functions and sustainability of this project

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

●      Understanding of team dynamics and a strong ability to mediate and problem solve

●      Ability to motivate teams and groups of diverse individuals

●      Understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion principles, preferably with experience advancing equitable program outcomes

●      Action oriented; an individual not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get into the details of the operation.

●      Excellent time management skills with capacity to work simultaneously on multiple tasks and projects and deliver on deadline

●      Project management skills: ability to stay on top of multiple projects and manage multiple deadlines, plans backwards and anticipates obstacles, identifies and involves stakeholders appropriately, uses resources wisely

●      Continuous improvement: looks for ways to improve processes through critical reflection and feedback

●      Excellent people-centered customer service skill

Qualifications

●      2-4 years experience in program development, project management, including administering funds or scholarship stipends

●      1-3 years experience in social support services, advising, or case management role

●      Prior experience working in government or similar large institutions

●      AmeriCorps/Peace Corps service experience a plus or knowledge of the AmeriCorps member experience
