Job Description

The Director of Development is a full-time position that reports directly to the Deputy Director and works closely with the Executive Director, Deputy Director, Chief Financial Officer, and the Board. The Director of Development is part of the senior leadership team of the museum and is responsible for developing and implementing engagement and fundraising strategies to enhance and grow revenue and current and prospective donors. This includes the management of fundraising events, COMPASS (CAM’s upper-level giving society), as well as the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, corporate, and foundation donors. Director of Development will recruit and supervise volunteers to help with department efforts. Paramount to this position is the ability to work with a high degree of independence and juggle various projects at once, while maintaining a clear view of how each project supports the organization’s mission.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Design, document, and implement a systematic and integrated donor relations program, including individual giving, corporate giving, and planned giving
  • Manage the Development Committee of the Board
  • Train both Board and staff regarding fundraising
  • Establish and manage information tracking processes regarding recognition, on-going communications, and continued cultivation of past and current donors and members in CAM’s donor tracking database, Altru, to enhance their relationship with CAM and increase the likelihood of continued contributions
  • Maintain online profiles, including Charity Navigator and Guidestar
  • Works closely with CAM’s Database Administrator in developing and implementing donor acknowledgement and membership solicitation
  • Attends internal and external meetings and community events as required and is active in the local fundraising and business community
  • Acts as a positive ambassador of CAM in the community
  • Discovers donor company’s corporate social responsibility and/or workplace giving objectives, identify opportunities that align with CAM’s mission statement, and work with staff to create engagement initiatives and opportunities.
  • Works with Deputy Director and Executive Director to create solicitation and year-round engagement strategies to retain current donors and attract new donors
  • Solicit in-kind donations as necessary
  • Develop and implement meaningful planned giving strategy
  • Create physical donor sponsorship materials with graphic designer and maintain inventory of general development team supplies.
  • Answer general development phone inquiries.
  • Provide professional assistance and interaction with donors via phone, computer and face-to-face.
  • Research and maintain current knowledge of national trends, strategies and best practices for museum and arts education and engagement, and best practices in field trip and teacher training programs at other museums.

Qualifications

  • Ability to convey a high degree of commitment and passion for mission of Cameron Art Museum
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills that are effective with a diverse range of audiences including board members, volunteers, internal staff, donors, executives, potential funding partners and all constituencies.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Exceptional understanding of philanthropy as it relates to the not-for-profit organization and a wide and deep knowledge of fundamental disciplines of resource development
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team; detail oriented, well organized, focused and goal- oriented, with a high level of initiative and energy, as well as problem solving skills.
  • Prior experience in a database management as well; Altru or donor software experience preferred
  • The knowledge and ability to create, execute and/or support, and oversee a comprehensive donor acknowledgement and recognition plan, including advising on complex and carefully orchestrated cultivation events and programs for the major donors

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a minimum five years of nonprofit donor relations experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal, written and digital communication skills

Additional Information

Salary/Benefits: Proposed salary range is $65,000 - $75,000. CAM currently offers full competitive employee benefits including medical insurance, 403(b) plan with matching, and paid time off.
