Today, KIPP Kansas City has grown to serve students in Pre-Kindergarten through 9th grade and is currency, educating approximately 700 students.
Job Description
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Special Education the Special Education Process Coordinator, will implement all components of the special education process including: screening, referral, evaluation, identification of students with disabilities, IEP development, appropriate placement, and overall compliance with local, state, and federal requirements for special education. Additionally, the Special Education Process Coordinator will support the Special Education teaching staff to ensure all KIPP Kansas City students with mental or physical disabilities receive a high quality education in accordance with their IEPs, Missouri and Federal requirements.
As a Process Coordinator, your core responsibilities include:
Perform educational assessments of students (psychological and educational) including: observations of the student, review of the student’s educational history, conferences with the student’s teachers, and the implementation and interpretation of designated assessments
Develop IEPs in accordance with guidelines established under IDEA, the Missouri State Plan for Special Education, and Special Education Compliance Standards and Indicators
Complete initial and triennial evaluations in accordance with guidelines established under IDEA, the Missouri State Plan for Special Education, and Special Education Compliance Standards and Indicators
As assigned by the Special Education Director, review transfer IEPs and Evaluations and complete acceptance paperwork, coordinating with other districts to gain needed records
As assigned by the Special Education Director, prepare and lead manifestation determination meetings in accordance with guidelines established under IDEA, the Missouri State Plan for Special Education, and Special Education Compliance Standards and Indicators
Maintain accurate and confidential records on all current and referred students including student/parent contacts in accordance with federal and state law, Board policy and the procedure of the school’s special education program.
Assist in the preparation of federal, state and local reports on special education.
Participate in due process/child complaint proceedings as needed.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor
Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications
Master’s degree required
Authorization to administer special education assessments
Deep commitment to educational equity and underserved communities
Valid Missouri Teaching license with certification in Special Education
Demonstrated knowledge of Special Education compliance
Satisfactory outcome of a background check
*Applicants currently pursuing a certification may apply before certification is received. All certifications must be acquired and on file with KIPP KC before the end of the first year of employment.
