Job Description

Fire Hose Games is looking for a part-time HR Generalist to help us make fun, friendly, and inclusive games in a fun, friendly, and inclusive studio environment! This is a part-time position, with a typical workload of 8-16 hours per week; our studio is fully-remote, and candidates may work from anywhere. This is a great opportunity to help shape the future of a successful indie development studio by strengthening our culture and our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular 1-on-1 check in meetings with team members, to assess both individual happiness and overall studio health
  • Coordinate employee-driven annual company evaluations, and analyze the results
  • Pass on feedback from both formal surveys and individual conversation to studio leadership, so that Fire Hose can improve
  • Assist with new hire onboarding, and conduct exit interviews with departing employees
  • Periodically review corporate practices and culture, and recommend improvements
  • Provide a confidential, outside-the-chain-of-command path for employees to lodge workplace complaints
  • Mediate interpersonal conflicts and complaints when necessary
  • Champion and improve the studio’s DEI principles, and help employees to foster an inclusive culture and mindset
  • Manage company benefits (health care, dental, 401k, etc.) programs and answer employee questions. (Please note this does not include payroll management and/or accounting.)

Qualifications

  • A degree or certification in HR or a related field, OR equivalent work experience
  • Familiar with employment law
  • Excellent and empathetic communication skills
  • Able to use discretion when presented with confidential and sensitive information
  • Demonstrated integrity, in both personal and professional contexts
  • Deep familiarity with DEI principles and their application in recruitment and retention

Preferences:

  • Experience working in an HR department with an entertainment, publishing, or interactive company
  • Passionate about games and game development
  • Familiarity with benefits management
