Job Description

The Role

We are seeking a Digital News Editor to join our dynamic Newsroom. The key focus of this role is to lead the digital news team to ensure our news content on social and digital platforms is relevant, on-brand and published in a timely and accurate manner. 

Reporting to the Group Director of News, this role offers management experience in a vibrant and exciting work environment. 

As well as writing and editing daily news content, the role also involves developing SEO practices, monitoring the performance of articles and social media posts, and coordinating with other teams across the Group to ensure online content reflects the on-air output.

You will:

  • Assist in devising and implementing a digital news strategy across all Bauer Media brands
  • Write, create and sub-edit engaging digital multi-media articles that will increase reach and engagement for news output on social media and an increase page views on Bauer owned websites
  • Use audio, graphics and video to deliver the best digital content experience
  • Implement a clear SEO strategy across digital news output
  • Lead a dedicated team of full-time and freelance digital news journalists
  • Collaborate with Editors and Reporters to produce content relevant to each of the brands
  • Collaborate with show Producers and Researchers to ensure strong on-air content becomes strong online content
  • Play an active part in daily editorial meetings of the Newsroom and Newstalk
  • Delegate responsibilities and workflow across the digital news team to include a focus on multi-platform original journalism
  • Oversee breaking news coverage on social and digital platforms
  • Play a key part in planning for scheduled News events
  • Track and report on the performance of digital output with a view to constant improvement to deliver increased reach and engagement
  • Co-ordinate with individual Bauer brands on specific large projects 

Qualifications

If the following traits sound like you, you might be the right person for the job:

  • At least 3+ years' in a digital role.
  • Strong desire to take a great deal of ownership. You want to make decisions, not just be told what to do.
  • Enthusiasm, imagination and lots of digital ideas are all essential
  • Exceptional project management skills along with proven ability to manage multiple high-priority stories simultaneously
  • Effective time management, strong organisation skills, and attention to detail
  • An analytical mindset with good Excel skills and an ability to make recommendations based on numbers
  • Not shy!
