About This Role:

As part of the Multiple Sclerosis and Neurorepair (MS&N) Research Unit, the individual will be expected to lead one of the three groups composing the Neuroinflammation branch of the MS&N unit aiming at the development of innovative CNS-penetrant therapeutics to target disease progression in multiple sclerosis. In collaboration with the unit leadership team, the individual will be responsible for the design and effective execution of the research strategy and advancement of several drug discovery projects at various stages of the preclinical pipeline with a goal to successfully advance these programs to R2D and FIH in the next 2 to 3 years. In this role, the individual will also be expected to leverage his/her drug discovery expertise to mentor more junior Scientists within the unit as well as contribute to the identification and validation of new targets for entry into the MS&N pipeline. Finally, the candidate will also be expected to contribute to increased fundamental understanding of neuroinflammation by maintaining exploratory research activities and publishing high quality publications to report findings.

What You Will Do

• Strategically and rigorously advance existing drug discovery programs in the field of Neuroimmunology towards R2D and FIH.
• Lead effectively a team of Scientists with a focus on critical drug discovery and scientific questions while inspiring and influencing beyond immediate team members
• Develop creative and innovative research strategy in the field of neuroinflammation in synergy with other members of the Neuroinflammation group as well as the Neurorepair arm of the MS&N unit.
• Act as a key member of the Multiple Sclerosis and Neurorepair department leadership team, contributing to department strategy, organizational, financial and operational planning.
• Leverage drug discovery and managerial experience to ensure professional growth of more junior scientists in the unit
• Interface effectively with various research and development functions at Biogen to ensure and reinforce effective collaborations with Drug discovery, Clinical, Biomarker and other critical R&D functions.
• Supervise Scientists and Associate Scientist(s) and lead in a highly matrixed environment
• Prepare, review and deliver scientific presentations for internal/external use
• Keep abreast of, and use, state-of-the-art technologies in drug discovery
• Build strong internal and external collaborations including hosting seminar speakers
• Write reports, manuscripts and generate data packages supporting drug candidate advancement and/or publication.

Required Skills

• Ph.D. degree in Neuroimmunology, Immunology, Cell Biology or Pharmacology
• Postdoctoral experience in Neuroimmunology and/or Immunology
• Must have a minimum of 5 to 6 years of industry experience
• Immunologists without Neuroimmunology expertise will be considered provided they have adequate drug development experience in pharmaceutical industry settings.
• Strong managerial skills with prior experience leading groups of Scientists/Associate Scientists

Preferred Skills

• Strong scientific background in Neuroimmunology
• Prior experience with microglia biology, neuroinflammatory diseases, multiple sclerosis
