Company Description

Our client is on the hunt for 3 experienced and motivated cooks for fixed term positions for approximately 4-5mths (starting mid-November 2021) This is not your usual position, you will be living on Mount Taranaki in DOC Huts and providing meals for a team of labourer’s who are building boardwalks, steps, and other structures on Taranaki Maunga.

Accommodation will be provided on the mountain (if you live in the area you may choose to drive to the Egmont Visitor Centre each day). You will stay on the mountain for 7 days. Some of the sites will involve being transported in by Car or Helicoptered on day 1 of your rotation, then a walk out on day 7, which is about a 2.5 hour undulating walk (paid). On your days off you might choose to be a sightseer in Taranaki – or you can be transported to your home location/city – e.g.by carpool/van.

Job Description

  • Feeding 8-15 people, breakfast, packed lunch, dinner (menus will be provided).
  • Manage food inventory safely and report purchasing requirements.
  • Manage meat with limited freezer space and fresh vegetables with camping set up. (Chilly bins, salt ice etc).
  • Keep the kitchen, bathroom, living areas and campsite clean and tidy.
  • Get hot water ready for showers.
  • Manage rubbish containment.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in food preparation
  • A reliable, friendly and professional manner
  • Have a strong focus on food hygiene and cleanliness
  • You must be fit and healthy as the walk out of the mountain each week is up to 2.5 - 3hrs
  • Proactive and quick to learn
  • Able to pass pre-employment drug test and then random drug testing on site
  • Be able to provide 2 referees for reference checks
