IBI Group’s Toronto office is seeking an experienced Construction Lead to work on major transit/subway projects in Toronto.  Reporting to the Project Director, the Construction Lead will be responsible for leading and managing a multidisciplinary construction team in the execution of the Yonge-North Subway Extension (YNSE) project under various procurement delivery models (i.e. Alliance, CMAR, Progressive DB, etc.). The successful candidate will also be responsible for building a collaborative team to work initially to deliver the project through to commissioning of the project. This individual should be highly organized and a project driver exhibiting extremely strong project management skills with the ability to work with individuals across multiple disciplines.

Most Of The Things You’ll Work On:

  • Reporting to the Project Lead, oversee the entire construction effort between the Construction Team and CA Construction Team to ensure project is constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule
  • Collaborate with Contracting Authority and applicable Contracting Authority Consultants to understand and document Project scope and identify any risks (including gaps in scope, site readiness, and in-market schedule) and develop mitigation strategies for such identified risks
  • Plan, coordinate and/or supervise activities of all company personnel working in accordance with the overall program objectives
  • Oversee the review of  work plans, construction submissions, commissioning and operations submissions and any other submissions by the Construction Team; ensuring that the project is conducted with the highest standards of quality and integrity
  • Oversee the overall coordination between Construction and Quality Team to ensure implementation of the quality program and audits for Construction activities
  • Provide oversight on the monthly report to Contracting Authority outlining findings of any incomplete work, discrepancy or inconsistency with intended dimensions, materials or finishes, substandard performance or failures, or other noncompliance/ non-conformance
  • Review, monitor, and report on Project Co's construction schedules and activities on site; Provide opinions on the validity of the construction schedule as presented by Project Co in coordination with the Owner’s Engineer
  • Monthly reporting to the CA on general project status, milestone activities, NCRs, Risks, and any additional commentary
  • Seeks innovation and cost effectiveness during the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure all company, client, and project policies, procedures, standards, etc., are adhered to
  • Provide oversight to support Contracting Authority, if requested, in liaising with municipalities, utility companies government agencies, Indigenous communities and Early Works Contractors to assess and determine requirements that need to be incorporated into the Project and advise on potential impacts to the schedule
  • Mentor and lead team members in their development and growth

Qualifications

You’ll Need To Have:

  • Ideally a minimum 20 years experience with a University or College degree/diploma; 10+ years of construction management experience
  • Must have very strong experience in transit stations (specifically subways).  Experience with other complex P3 level projects are an asset
  • Must have expert knowledge on Construction Safety Standards with ability to drive safety culture
  • Have an integrated team approach to construction; IPD experience an asset.
  • Must be a proven people and project leader with solid experience managing and developing multidisciplinary teams
  • Results-oriented with an extremely high work ethic, excellent communication, planning skills stringent quality standards, and a can-do attitude
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of modern construction techniques including incorporation of digital modeling and tools for efficiency in construction and for the benefit of client life cycle

Additional Information

We are currently in a work from home model during COVID-19, but when we do return to the office we're located at 55 St. Clair Ave West, this office is steps away from St. Clair station and is easily accessible by bike, TTC and car. Occupying 7 floors, with over 700 employees, it is the largest office at IBI Group. The floors are open concept and represent our collaborative approach to projects.
