Job Description

We are currently seeking an ADAPTIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER to join our team of passionate and dedicated professionals. Bilingual and bicultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and runs physical education classes for small groups of students, making adaptations for each student’s learning and motor needs
  • Evaluates students’ physical education needs, develops goals and objectives for student Individual Education Plans, and measures progress toward objectives
  • Coordinates the purchase of sport and fitness equipment for school and residences and oversees proper use and maintenance
  • Collaborates with therapists (OT, PT, SLP) and educators to provide physical education that is adapted to each student’s ability level
  • Collaborates with another APE-Aquatics Teacher to help develop and run programs in our new Aquatics and Fitness Center
  • Provides staff development related to supporting fitness and leisure for students
  • Supports a fun and active environment for staff and students through the physical education program and school-wide events!

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Current MA Special Education certification in Physical Education is required
  • Academic concentration or teaching experience in Adapted Physical Education is preferred
  • Red Cross Life Guard Certification or a willingness to obtain the current certification is required
