Based in Boston, CED supports local economic justice initiatives like the Boston Ujima Project, Solidarity Economy Initiative, and Mass Redistribution Fund, while offering training and technical assistance for economic democracy efforts across the US.

JOB PURPOSE

 

The Finance & Accounting Coordinator is a key member of the Administrative team in its efforts to support the organization’s activities. This is an opportunity for someone excited to put their knowledge around bookkeeping and finances behind an organization that is poised to grow. While the day-to-day work includes a significant amount of information gathering and data entry, there will be ample opportunity to help shape and implement financial policies and procedures and grow professionally. This role reports to the Director of Finance & HR. This position is full-time and based in our Boston, MA office. We are currently working remotely with a strong possibility of moving to a hybrid work model in the future. This role has a pay range of 45k-55k and an anticipated late August start date.

 

     RESPONSIBILITIES

 

·   Operate within our cloud-based accounting software to record, store, and analyze information.

·   Manage our accounts payable & accounts receivable process including the collecting and storing of documentation

·   Lead CED’s yearly state charitable registration process

·   Manage the mail pick-up process according to our established policy

·   Work with our CRM to maintain up-to-date information on all donors, manage any inquiries as well as acknowledgment letters.

·   Assist in the semi-annual budget preparation process.

·   Work with the finance team on monthly, quarterly, and yearly preparation of financial statements as well as yearly audit of financial statements by outside CPA.

·   Prepare financial statements for fiscally sponsored projects and handle any financial inquiries or issues that arise

·   Code documents according to company procedures.

·   Perform financial calculations, such as amounts due, interest charges, balances, discounts, equity, and principal.

·   Reconcile or note and report discrepancies found in records.

·   Prepare and process payroll information

Qualifications

·   Minimun two years of direct or comparable experience

·   Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Non-profit Accounting

·   Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail

·   Strong communications skills as well as being able to effectively deal with inquiries from all levels of the organization and externally, able to communicate in Spanish a plus

·   Demonstrated commitment to economic/racial/environmental justice and systemic change; support reparations for Black and Indigenous communities, has a healthy critique of capitalism

·   Work well independently and across teams, bringing camaraderie, humor and a can-do attitude

·   Experience with and/or excitement to step into an increasingly horizontal, collaborative and self-managed leadership structure: learn more about our team here
