Job Description

We are currently seeking a talented Transportation Designer / Engineer to join our established and growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the independent production of engineering design drawings for a variety of municipal roadway construction projects with added potential for involvement in MTO highway and Light Rail Transit projects.  This opportunity allows you to use your design skills on medium to large-scale transportation projects.

Most of the things you'll work on:

  • Working with team members in cooperation with highly experienced Project Management staff, develop, co-ordinate and prepare design drawings and graphics for Municipal roadway and highway engineering projects. 
    Key responsibilities include:
    • Preparation of functional study, preliminary design and detailed engineering design drawings, contract documents and engineering specifications;
    • Assistance with the evaluation of practical design solutions and alternatives;
    • Analysis of engineering problems and design opportunities focused on the development of appropriate design solutions;
    • Preparation of design renderings potentially using Infraworks 360 to prepare visualizations of the intended finished project;
    • Preparation of construction cost estimates;
    • Assistance to project managers, engineers, technologists, surveyors, and other disciplines on a variety of design teams, including pursuits on Municipal, Region and Provincial transportation engineering projects.
    • Being a truly multi-disciplined office, opportunities for involvement in architectural and site development and re-development projects also exists.

Qualifications

You'll need to have: 

  • A university degree or college diploma in Civil Engineering 
  • Familiarity with the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process
  • 7 - 10 years of municipal infrastructure and roadway design experience in an Ontario design office
  • MUST have excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, AutoTurn or equivalent
  • Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation and InRoads/OpenRoads would be an additional benefit; while training opportunities also exist
  • Knowledgeable in the application of transportation engineering principles and design standards, Applied knowledge of TAC, OTM , OPS standards is a must
  • Ability to present ideas and design rationale
  • Excellent technical, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Initiative and an ability to work independently as part of a team of design professionals 
  • A commitment to deadlines, excellence and high quality work with a strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite of products
  • Current good standing and Registration with PEO or OACETT is essential, although equivalent certifications and experience will be considered.
  • Commitment to Quality Management and processes, the ability to communicate and provide leadership while working with various professionals and  design teams and express project quality expectations effectively
