Job Description

Working on Android at Square is a unique opportunity in the mobile industry – you’ll get to work in one of the largest most established mobile ecosystems in existence – learning a lot from our large team of engineers in the process. We currently have openings across the following teams:

Appointments: Join us to solve challenging software and product problems related to scheduling, payments, and distributed systems. You will create beautiful Calendar UIs that help merchants manage their time and offline capable features. will have direct responsibility for launching critical new features that help our merchants have a seamless experience. 

Business Banking: The Banking Experience team is at the forefront of Square’s push to provide full-fledged business banking offering to Square sellers. As a member of this full-stack sprint team you will develop cohesive banking features to surface Square's Checking account experience, new Savings account, Square Loans, and (eventually) new lending products.

Checkout: As an Android engineer on the Checkout team, you’ll help design, build, and maintain our best-in-class Checkout experience for Square Sellers and collaborating closely with engineers, product managers, and designers from across the company.

Orders: As an Android engineer on the Orders Mobile team, you will help design, build, and maintain Square’s Order Management System on our Point of Sale app. You will be involved in the technical details of integrating Square’s Point of Sale product with ordering solutions, such as Buy Online Pickup In Store, while also working on externally-facing tools to help third-party Android developers integrate with Orders.

Point of Sale: As an Android engineer, you will have complete ownership over the surface areas in the POS applications to make these experiences magical -- for sellers, cashiers and buyers alike. You will work with BE, FE and fellow client engineers to develop new features and improve on existing experiences, and in the process, contribute to one of our most recognized products in the world. You'd also get to work with our flagship hardware products -- Square Register and Square Terminal, as our product experiences are tailored to work even better than on an iPad through these hardware integrations.

Qualifications

You’ll need to…

  • Be proficient in Java and/or Kotlin for development (we use both).
  • Enjoy working on mobile apps at all levels – from networking up to user interfaces and whatever’s in between.
  • Build high availability and highly resilient systems which can accept and report payments no matter the network or device conditions.
  • Collaborate with iOS, Android, and Server engineers to ship features.
  • Work with product managers and designers to refine and define product scope and design.
  • Respond to customer feedback to improve our products.
