Today, our New York City network is comprised of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Forward, a comprehensive support program for our alumni. KIPP NYC Public Schools currently serves more than 9,350 students and alumni and has a staff of more than 850. KIPP NYC is continuing to grow and opened two new middle schools and an elementary school August 2021!

Job Description

With our regional expansion of remote learning during the 2020-21 school year, the Director of Software and Product Management is an essential role in ensuring high quality education for all of our students, using various online learning platforms relevant for both remote learning and in-person instruction. In addition to the online learning platforms, the Director of Software and Product Management will support and manage our adoption of the NYS Data Protection regulations to ensure the security of our students’ and families’ private information. This position will report to the Senior Managing Director, Technology and the Senior Director, Technology. Additionally, this position is based out of the KIPP NYC office and has the possibility of a partial remote work schedule.

General Duties and Responsibilities (but are not limited to):

  • Collaborate with regional curriculum planning team on all educational software matters
  • Manage and organize all legal documentation for all software platforms, including review of order forms, contracts, specific terms & conditions, privacy policies, and documentation relating to data security and standards; document and highlight any issues that require Technology Leadership Team or General Counsel
  • Oversee the regional adoption of the newly enforced Part 121 regulations from the NYS Education Law 2-D, including the Parent Bill of Rights  and NYS Data Riders for all vendors and contracts
  • Work through user interface design and platform interoperability, to identify and respond to challenges, issues, and bugs, with the ultimate goal of streamlining the user experience for teachers and students
    • Collaborate with selected school-based staff serving as School Tech support to collect information around challenges, issues, and bugs from the teacher perspective
    • Share findings with tech support and curriculum support teams to ensure alignment and increase fluidity, decrease friction with use of educational software 
  • Develop expertise in the areas of web filtering and management technologies and school district compliance in alignment with KIPP NYC IT Security policy and procedures
  • Manage at least one KIPP NYC IT Associate responsible for on-time set-up and implementation of software to align with PowerSchool/Clever/Google, including troubleshooting and workload monitoring & management

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree required
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a related role or field
  • Some general experience with instructional practices or curriculum, such as scope& sequence, lesson planning, content standards
  • Specialized knowledge in general tech areas (security/usability/support), and experience with “EdTech” regulations (COPPA, CIPA, FERPA, NYSEd2-D, NIST) 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships with multiple stakeholders across the organization 
  • Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high quality work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Ability to be highly administratively organized within shared systems. Responsible for extensive development, capture, and maintenance of meeting notes and agendas (internal & external parties)
