Job Description

This attorney in Visa’s Legal and Compliance group will be part of the team that works on Visa’s global M&A and investments in support of Visa’s corporate development and venture investments teams. 

This job may be based in either Foster City, CA or New York, NY. 

Essential Functions

  • Work with internal clients to explore acquisition and investment opportunities and execute transactions
  • Lead transaction teams from the Legal and Compliance groups and coordinate with other functions
  • Review, negotiate and draft definitive documents and other agreements
  • Conduct and oversee due diligence
  • Review presentations and other materials
  • Coordinate and contribute to integration of newly acquired businesses
  • Supervise outside counsel and effectively manage legal costs
  • Develop initiatives for improving internal processes, form agreements and service levels
  • Deliver consistent, strategic, risk-weighted, business-focused legal counsel
  • Manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Untangle and analyze complex legal issues

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA /JD/MD); or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 7+ years of legal practice, with a primary focus on M&A
  • Admission to the bar in the United States
  • Juris Doctorate 
  • Experience as a lawyer at both a law firm and multi-national company
  • Experience buying/selling companies in multiple non-U.S. jurisdictions
  • Capacity to work independently and take initiative
  • Passion for excellence
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Excellent judgment on legal matters, reflecting pragmatism and business savvy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously
  • Experience managing transactions involving regulators a plus but not required
  • Experience in payments or technology industries a plus but not required
  • Open to periodic travel
  • Admission to the bar in California or New York a plus but not required

Travel Requirements:

  • This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements:

  • This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, reach with hands and arms, and bend or lift up to 25 pounds.
