Job Description

Seeking a Lead Mobile Engineer to help build the next generation of mobile applications in baseball & softball motion analytics. Diamond Kinetics is looking for a high performance engineer interested in leading the team that is taking our existing iOS mobile application to the next level. As a development leader at Diamond Kinetics, you must be passionate about delivering in-app experiences that delight users with their simplicity while the difficult work of bluetooth connection management, data storage & synchronization, data display, and 3D rendering is handled seamlessly behind the scenes.

Your work leading the mobile development team at Diamond Kinetics will advance the state of the art in motion analytics in baseball and softball. As a lead engineer on our mobile team, you will interface with all aspects of engineering at Diamond Kinetics. You will build robust data transfer schemes over bluetooth with our firmware team; you will build frameworks to embed Python to help facilitate our R&D department; you will build data synchronization methods to more effectively and efficiently synchronize data across thousands of devices.

Job Function and Purpose

The Lead Mobile Engineer is responsible for the development and maintenance of native mobile code on the iOS platform - primarily Swift, but also Objective-C. Working closely with the rest of the development team, this person utilizes their knowledge of software development best practices and hardware capabilities in defining and delivering a delightful mobile user experience to our users. 

This position will require someone with demonstrable success building native mobile applications and leading a team to successful app launches. As the company grows into new and exciting opportunities within the sports of baseball & softball we seek an engineer who is passionate about software development best practices, team building, and delivering high quality mobile applications.

Diamond Kinetics’ team and our product offerings are growing quickly, so the role requires a self-motivated individual with a proven track record of excellent communication, organization, and technical skills to work cross functionally with other organizations (internal and external), who can also communicate to all levels of management.

Beyond technical development capabilities, the Lead Mobile Engineer has team leadership responsibilities that include sprint/roadmap planning, driving regular management team communications, and leading a small team of mobile developers to achieve the overall development quality and execution goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead development of mobile applications, services, and test suites for iOS

  • Lead iOS mobile development team including sprint planning and management with strong regular communication to internal and external (as required) stakeholders

  • Architect a maintainable and testable codebase for a system that integrates classically “hard to test” concepts like bluetooth, video, in-app purchases, and user interfaces.

  • Work with our product management team to create compelling user interfaces using Storyboards, AutoLayout, and native code when necessary

  • Create 2D and 3D data visualizations that give meaning and understanding to our baseball and softball metrics using Charts, OpenGL, and similar frameworks

  • Collaborate with the R&D team to integrate new sensor capabilities and data into mobile applications

  • Assist in execution of personnel planning and professional/technical development of direct reports

  • Promote mobile software development best-practices including continuous integration, accuracy testing & reporting, centralized logging, crash reporting, etc.

  • Effectively engage with customers (coaches, players, and parents) during real-life use of Diamond Kinetics’ software and hardware

  • Work closely with management to assess and enhance processes and communication patterns to the benefit of the organization

Qualifications

  • B.S. or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Information Networking, or equivalent field of study

  • 5-10 years of software development experience with a track record of success in product development and deployment

  • Comfortable working in multiple languages across multiple architectures, with a demonstrable history of quickly picking up new languages and frameworks

  • Passionate about software development best practices and confident communication skills to promote those best practices

  • Deep understanding of REST APIs, data synchronization protocols/patterns, and user experience best practices

  • Demonstrable proficiency in Swift, Objective-C, and Python

Additional Desired Experience

  • Played baseball or softball; understanding and passion for the games

  • Comfortable with physics concepts and equations

  • Experience with Apple’s Core Bluetooth library

  • Experience with OpenGL ES, ARKit, Metal

  • Android development experience

  • Start-up and/or early-stage company experience
