Job Description

IBI Group is a leader in providing professional services to clients resulting in sustainable regional and urban transportation systems that define the cities of tomorrow.  IBI Group’s active transportation practice supports towns, cities, counties and regional governments throughout North America and beyond in creating places that are safe, comfortable, and convenient for people to travel on foot or by bicycle.  The Active Transportation team in our Hamilton office is looking for up to two transportation planner / EITs to join our practice!

Your knowledge of transportation planning and /or transportation engineering and design will be applied to projects with an active transportation focus.  Be part of a core team delivering quality design projects for pedestrian, cycling and trails projects.

Some recognizable projects our team has worked on include:

  • Richmond and Adelaide Bikeway Planning and Design 
  • Bathurst and Adelaide Intersection Planning and Design 
  • Cannon St. Bikeway and Bay St. Bikeway 
  • 10-year Cycling Network Implementation Plan 
  • Thunder Bay Active Transportation Plan

Most of the things you'll work on:

  • Assisting Active Transportation Project Managers with a variety of tasks, including reviewing relevant policies, performing technical analysis, writing reports, and preparing presentations for clients.
  • Assisting on active transportation studies ranging from long-range network master plans to corridor-specific planning and design studies, supporting active transportation and TDM components of transportation master plans.
  • Preparing design concepts related to active transportation, complete streets and traffic calming studies.
  • Knowledge of GIS would be an asset allowing you to undertake project work related to network plans, mapping and feasibility review.
  • Business development and proposal writing

Qualifications

You'll need to have:

  • 1-6 years of experience in consulting or municipal environments with understanding of transportation planning and/or engineering principles
  • Bachelors and/or Master degree in planning, civil engineering, transportation engineering or equivalent experience
  • Candidates with a Civil Engineering Technologist College Diploma or landscape architecture background are also welcome to apply
  • Understanding of and knowledge of transportation planning / transportation engineering, transportation demand management and/or active transportation planning and design principles
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with a commitment to excellence and high-quality work 
  • Attention to detail and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 
  • Interest in active transportation is an asset
  • Working knowledge of GIS and/or AutoCAD or Microstation is an asset
  • Knowledge of graphics programs such as Illustrator or InDesign is an asset
  • Working towards RPP, P.Eng., CET or similar designation
