Eurofins Discovery is looking for a Principal Scientist to join our Chemistry team in Murcia, Spain.

This individual will bring innovative solutions to synthetic and medicinal chemistry problems and programs as part of our Integrated Drug Discovery team, DiscoveryOne™. We are currently seeking an outstanding individual to join our Chemistry team as a Principal Scientist, in Murcia, Spain. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• As a dynamic scientific project and group leader, direct medicinal and synthetic chemistry functions for one or more client’s drug discovery projects working in concert with internal and external partners in molecular and cellular biology, pharmacology, computational chemistry, ADME, structural biology and other key functions.
• Developing and directing clear synthetic strategies towards complex molecules using state-of-the-art synthetic methodologies in a time-sensitive manner.
• Maintaining a significant level of knowledge of emerging Organic Chemistry and management of laboratory research.
• Analyze screening data, perform literature reviews, design, propose, and execute medicinal chemistry plans, coordinate chemistry and biology data to support compound progression and project advancement.
• Utilizing structure-based design principles to impact rational design of molecules.
• Generating novel, testable hypotheses to enable clear decision making
• Provide scientific direction and leadership for synthetic and medicinal chemistry activities of internal & external FTEs
• Supervise and direct synthetic chemistry activities in a face-paced setting.
• Independently designing drug-like molecules utilizing current medicinal chemistry knowledge, including property-based optimization, and an understanding of ADME, pharmacokinetics and optimal physicochemical properties.
• Participate in shaping and implementing strategies that support medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry and DiscoveryOne growth.
• Ensure optimal interaction/communication and provide updates on project status to clients.
• Conduct performance review of staff and help them set-up and achieve performance goals.
• Oversees, directs, coordinates and prioritizes the daily activities of one, or more teams of synthetic Chemists to maximize efficiency and productivity to meet client’s needs.
• Actively getting customer feedback and translating it into solutions, improvements and new requirements to enhance overall productivity
• Set up customer centric Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) goals to monitor costs, quality, turnaround time, and other pertinent metrics to aid the progress and success of the chemistry operations and client’s projects. 

Basic Minimum Qualifications:

• PhD in synthetic organic or medicinal chemistry is required
• Postdoctoral experience is preferred
• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with proven track record in medicinal and synthetic organic chemistry is required
• Expert knowledge of modern methods of synthetic and medicinal chemistry is required
• Experience as a project leader in the biopharmaceutical industry is strongly preferred
• Experience leading teams of organic and medicinal chemist is required
• Experience managing cross functional discovery teams is strongly preferred

The ideal candidate would possess:

• Strong track record of achievement in the synthesis of complex molecules and/or synthetic methodology development, with deep knowledge of modern synthetic & analytical techniques is preferred.
• Proven track record of scientific contributions to projects, including co-inventorship on patents is preferred.  Senior or co-authorship on publications and presentations would be preferred.
• Strong leadership skills with excellent interpersonal skills and proven success of drug discovery.
• Scientific creativity, independent thought and decision making ability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent Problem Solving Skills and Autonomy.
• Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills.
• Must be detailed orientated and consistent in experimental approach.
