The Senior Research Scientist will be responsible for leading and progressing research into laboratory techniques at CGG. The specialist will be expected to take an innovative approach in a number of different energy fields including environmental analysis, mining and minerals, CCS, Geothermal and Oil & Gas. The Senior Research Scientist will lead the development of new workflows and technologies that provide differentiation for CGG and reduce cycle time.

The candidate must not be afraid of actively encouraging and developing ideas outside of conventional workflows in order to be at the forefront of the discipline globally.

They must have strong analytical skills and be able to critically evaluate methodologies currently used as standard practise, whilst staying at the forefront of experimental laboratory techniques. The candidate must be able to work both independently and within a varied and multi-disciplinary team. The role is primarily based at CGG’s North Wales sites, however, may also be required to work at other locations in the UK or oversees.

The successful candidate must be highly motivated, curious, have an innovative mind-set, and hold significant experience researching laboratory techniques. A passion for dealing with real data is important for this role as you will be solving real-world problems and delivering high-end technological solutions to our clients.  They will be fulfilling a new and exciting role in an already established team.

Principle Accountabilities

The successful candidate will develop laboratory based techniques and workflows through experimentation and will be expected to keep up to date knowledge of scientific literature. You will undertake critical evaluation of already developed workflows and provide guidance on improvement, as well as effectively giving feedback to a wider team. As part of the role, you will take a leading role in research and development projects, including project management and the communication of results to key stakeholders. As well as this, you will have in-put into new research proposals and have the responsibility for applying for potential funding.

We are seeking a candidate with high attention to detail and accurate administrative skills who can ensure that all methodologies and results use latest technology and data formatting. You will have good communication skills, both verbal and use this to transfer knowledge on current workflows and educate the wider team to support in their progression. You will be adaptable and able to work as part of a proactive and flexible team, responsible for delivering high quality sample data and have a research and customer focused outlook to problem solving. Collaboration with Universities, students and projects who CGG partner with is another aspect of the role.

Due to the nature of the work, it is vital for the successful candidate to be a reliable and conscientious individual who will work in accordance with legislative and company policies and procedures. As part of this, you will undertake mandatory HSE training whilst in the post and ensure HSE is permanently at the forefront of all actions.

This role may require you to work in other locations in the UK or oversees.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

  • Educated to PhD level in a relevant subject.
  • Proven journal publication and conference presentation track record.
  • Proven laboratory experience in at least one of the following sectors; environmental analysis, mining and minerals, CCS, Geothermal and Oil & Gas, preferably in a research post.
  • Established advanced problem-solving skills, with a desire to continuously improve standard practices and ability to develop new techniques.
  • Ability to undertake and understand scientific analysis.
  • IT literate, with experience of using Microsoft Office.
