Company Description

International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) means unforgettable films, unexpected encounters and a wide variety of films, events, performances, installations and parties. IFFR promotes independent cinema by upcoming and established talent from all over the world. We do so all year round, the highlight of the year being the twelve-day festival in January which attracts over 300,000 visits annually. The 50th edition takes place from 27 January to 7 February 2021 and will be realised by around 45 permanent employees, 120 temporary employees and over 900 volunteers. Do you want to gain work experience at one of the biggest festivals in the Netherlands? Then you’re in luck! IFFR is looking for an intern Press & PR, starting in September.

Job Description

The Press & PR department is responsible for positioning IFFR and the festival within the (inter)national film industry. The department does this by informing national and international media about IFFR, maintaining and strengthening relationships with national and international (film)journalists and other stakeholders, and organising and representing Press & PR events during the festival, as well as year round. During the festival, the Press Office welcomes around 350 journalists to Rotterdam. The team helps them find their way around the festival and answers any interview or information requests they might have.

What will you be doing?
● Prepare press releases and mailings for publication in the appropriate formats (Mailchimp, etc.).
● Support IFFR’s communication with journalists.
● Help organise press events such as press conferences, red-carpet events,drinks, special film screenings and photo calls.
● Archive and organise the influx of publications and press clippings during the entire internship period.
● Support the press team during the festival, for example by accompanying camera crews or distributing promotional materials.
● Be the point of contact for the volunteers distributing film posters across festival locations.
● Help setting up the Press desk.
● Other tasks in support of the press team and head of department.

Qualifications

● You’re pursuing an education in media, culture, events, or communication.
● You have excellent organisational and analytical skills.
● You have affinity with IFFR and/or cinema.
● You’re not afraid to take initiative.
● You’re proactive, creative, conscientious, thorough and can handle pressure. Above all you’re a team player.
● You live in Rotterdam or in the vicinity of Rotterdam.

Additional Information

Period: The internship Press & PR lasts for a period of six months, from 1 September
2020 to 27 February 2021.

Internship fee: The gross internship fee is €300 per month based on full-time employment.
