Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Director, and working closely with the ED, the Director of Development will serve as the chief development officer for SECU Family House and is responsible for directing all fundraising strategies that will attract the resources necessary to ensure an annual balanced budget and support reserve growth.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership and Management of Family House Development Team:

  • Director of Communications
  • Volunteer and Community Outreach Coordinator
  • Development and Administrative Coordinator

Direct all aspects of Fundraising Strategies of SECU Family House:

  • Staff and manage the Donor and Community Relations Committee, a standing committee of the Board of Directors, to ensure strong Board of Director involvement in all development efforts.
    • Present development reports to the Board of Directors that update the status of the development campaign and compare annual income against goals.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with existing donors to ensure retention.
    • Oversee an acknowledgement plan for all gifts to the organization that personalizes the relationship through Database segmentation.
    • Grow current corporate, foundation, and individual support by overseeing donor and grant proposals and donor relations materials, developing relationships, and identifying new sources of support.
  • Oversee the annual Development plan which includes a Family Assistance Fund appeal, a year-end appeal, spring and fall newsletters, and an Impact Report by working collaboratively with Director of Communications.
    • Oversee strategy of cause-related marketing opportunities, special events and acquisition of in-kind goods.
    • Oversee any initiatives that help increase long-term awareness and fundraising efforts, such as a planned giving program that obtains support through wills, bequests, and other forms of estate planning.
  • Oversee any donor cultivation and recognition strategies and programs.
    • Evaluate and implement event initiatives by determining goals for each event, evaluating packaging for repeatability and business benefit for sponsorship opportunities.

Serve as Chief Major Gift Officer:

  •  Act as major gift officer (with a list of prospects) and coordinate with the Executive Director to cultivate his/her prospect list.
  • Staff and manage a Major Gifts Committee of board and former board members.
  • Work with Executive Director to maintain a diversity in funding sources to ensure long-term sustainability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Demonstrated successful and progressive major gift experience in a non-profit or related organization
  • Strong sphere of influence in the community
  • Excellent verbal and written communications
  • Excellent interpersonal, time-management and organizational skills
  • Strong Attention to detail
  • Goal Oriented
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office required
  • Working knowledge of Internet based Database systems
  • Demonstrated initiative, problem solving ability and diplomacy
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to manage expenses and stay within budgets
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively to uncertainty and constant changes
  • Demonstrate positive attitude toward guests, donors, volunteers, staff and others who come in contact with the Family House
  • Demonstrate respect for privacy and confidentiality of all guests and agency information
  • Demonstrate genuine interest in the successful operation of the Family House
  • Some travel required for developing community relations
  • Physical demands for this position include sitting, standing, bending, bending, walking, lifting, and/or moving up to 40 lbs
