Job Description

Job Function

Supports the overall finance and accounting functions for the Credit Union by designing, developing and/or administering all reports and systems necessary to maintain control of all accounting and audit functions. Works with the Chief Financial Officer to develop and implement short and long term plans.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides board with reports – financial statements, asset/liability management, liquidity ratio, interest margins.
  • Performs accounting tasks as required.
  • Signs cheques and other negotiable accounting tasks.
  • Responsible for administration of the Credit Union’s securitization program including all maintenance/reporting relating to existing pools and creation of all new pools as appropriate.
  • Monitors branches key financial performance ratios (financial margin, operating expenses etc.)
  • Manages Credit Union investments including liquidity with Central1 and investments with other partners including but not limited to National Bank, Q-Trade and Concentra.
  • Works with CFO to develop and implement short and long term plans.
  • Answers questions and helps all employees as needed.
  • Provides overrides when needed.
  • Reviews bank reconciliations, $CDN & $US, as prepared by other staff.
  • Serves as primary point of support for internal and external auditors.
  • Responsible for reporting to FSRA, Ministry of Financial Institutions, Central 1, CRA & other government and regulatory agencies.
  • Supports and co-ordinates preparation of budgets and the financial forecasts for the credit union.
  • Serves as a member of the ALCO Committee.
  • Develops and recommends changes to policies and procedures in the areas of administration and accounting.
  • Reviews weekly payroll reports for accuracy and completeness.  Serves as back-up for payroll processing function during absences.
  • Calculates monthly FTE per branch.
  • Maintains sound working knowledge of Collective Agreement and application of and adherence of same.
  • Assist with Property Management functions.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as required.
  • Act as an ambassador of PenFinancial by looking for opportunities to promote products and services and seek referrals from members and non-members.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills you’ll need to succeed:

  • University degree or equivalent experience in a business/marketing environment
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA Designation or equivalent business experience required)
  • 10+ years of accounting experience in a leadership role
