Stratas Foods was formed in October 2008 as a 50/50 joint venture between ACH Food Companies (ACH) and Archer Daniels Midland (ADM).

Job Description

To provide Human Resource guidance to the multiple sites this position has responsibility.  Foster a creation of a positive work environment by:

  • Facilitating fair resolutions to employee relation issues

  • Managing all union interactions

  • Developing, recommending and coordinating policies and programs related to Human Resources

The Operations Human Resource Manager position requires up to 30% travel to the various facilities of responsibility.

  1. Employee Relations:  Determines and recommends employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive work environment and promote a sense of fairness and consistency.  Offers guidance and assistance to plant personnel in dealing with day-to-day employee relations’ issues.  Provides accurate and consistent policy interpretation and administration
  2. Union Involvement:  Acts as company representative in dealing with Union issues.  Builds positive working relationship with Union leadership to facilitate business operations.  Manages and coordinates the grievance process.  Provides plant with interpretation of labor agreement contract language.  Prepares company’s position for arbitration and contract negotiations.
  3. Recruiting:  Recruits for all exempt, non-exempt and guides hourly positions in the facility.  This includes meeting with hiring supervisors and managers to develop a recruiting strategy, utilization of appropriate recruiting sources, interviewing, reference checks and scheduling pre-employment drug screens and physicals.
  4. Legal Issues:  Acts as company liaison in dealing with federal agencies such as EEOC.  Coordinates presentation of Company’s position to this agency with assistance of VP Human Resources and legal counsel.
  5. Policy Administration:  Develops, recommends and implements personnel policies and procedures.  Prepares and maintains employee handbook of policies and procedures.
  6. Benefit Administration:  Manages benefit administration for salaried and hourly benefit plant working with Corporate HR to ensure timely resolution of benefit issues.  Offers guidance to facility employees as needed.
  7. Government Reporting and Record Keeping:  Assists with the Affirmative Action program communication.  Ensures the maintaining of  other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.  Establishes and maintains company records and reports and conduct audits when required.
  8. Compensation:  Manages wage administration and annual review process.    
  9. New Hire Orientation:  Develop comprehensive new hire orientation process and effective onboarding.
  10. Organization Development:  Manages performance management process and developmental needs of staff.  Develops, conducts and /or coordinates training programs, which address these developmental needs.
  11. Supervising:  Indirectly supervises employees in the Human Resources Department at the plants.  Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems and compliance with organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Human Resources Management required.

Related Experience: 5+ years generalist Human Resources experience at the plant level with HR management experience in a unionized environment.  Must have hands on experience managing labor agreements.  Experience with multi-plant responsibilities.  Advanced level of counseling skills and abilities on a wide range of employee-related areas.  Must be able to manage conflict resolutions effectively..

Equipment/Software Skills:  Must be current with spreadsheets, word processing, databases (Excel, Outlook, Word)

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:  SPHR or PHR preferred.

Physical:  .While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Sensory:  While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
