La Scuola is San Francisco’s first IB-PYP School and the first Reggio-IB Italian Immersion program in the world. We are currently implementing the IB Middle Years Program as MYP candidate school. La Scuola, founded in San Francisco in 2002 as La Piccola Scuola Italiana, has grown from a small playgroup of Italian-American and Italian families to a thriving International community of 300+ families from preschool through 8th grade (in the 2019-20 school year).

Job Description

We are seeking an individual who will act as Full-Time Instructional Aide for our Elementary School Campus for the 2019-20 Academic Year.

The role partners proactively with teachers and administration to support both the student with different learning styles and teachers in their efforts to advance students with different learning needs. The Instructional Aide will:

  • Observe and evaluate individual student displaying academic or behavioral difficulties and assess their learning strengths and challenges.

  • Carry out classroom tasks that support the school and the child.  

  • Participate in classroom instruction as needed.  Work one-on-one, in pairs, or in small groups with the student who has diagnosed learning differences or other diagnoses that impact achievement.

  • Liaise with the classroom teachers when they are developing learning activities.  

  • Participate in parent-teacher communication & conferences as needed.

  • Develop and/or implement specific curriculum, charts, forms, digital tools and games, or other aids to help assigned students learn classroom material in alternate forms.

  • May participate in lunch, specialist or recess duties. Other duties as noted by the school.

  • Nature of the role may shift during the school year to include recess supervision and extended care teaching depending on the ever-changing needs of the school’s staff and students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; graduate degree preferred

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working with adolescents and families; some classroom experience preferred

  • Fluency in Italian preferred, but not required

  • Knowledge of learning disabilities, psycho-educational tests, reports, and assistive technology

  • Knowledge of administering and interpreting assessments and test results, academic achievement, and diagnostic testing

  • Sophistication in understanding learning differences and devising appropriate strategies for accommodating them

  • Patience and a problem-solving approach to issues.

  • Our ideal candidate is an outgoing, well-organized individual who is eager to work in a highly dynamic, energetic school setting.

  • Candidate must be prepared to teach and tutor material at an elementary and middle school immediately.
