Our Data Science Excellence Program (DSEP) is a 4.5-year rotational program designed to develop the next generation of data scientists.  The program consists of three 18-month rotations within Verisk’s business units as a fulltime Verisk employee; potential rotations include but are not limited to:

  • AIR Worldwide (catastrophic risk modeling solutions): Boston, Massachusetts
  • Argus Information and Advisory Services (financial information services): White Plains, New York; and San Francisco, California, Bangalore, India
  • Atmospheric and Environmental Research (weather risk management and research services): Lexington, Massachusetts
  • Verisk Innovative Analytics (advanced analytical solutions for energy, financial services and property/casualty insurance): San Francisco, California

DSEP participants are required to physically relocate three times while in the program to Verisk’s businesses around the country, determined by the DSEP’s Data Science Council, in collaboration with the program participant.  Upon completion of the program, DSEP participants will have the opportunity to secure a challenging and exciting position within one of Verisk’s businesses based on their interests and the company’s needs.

As a DSEP data scientist, you’ll receive hands-on analytics experience doing everything from data wrangling, querying, modeling, visualizing, and productizing as you work in business areas including insurance, finance, energy, and climate.  Your products and services will help our clients in decision analytics, forecasting, and risk management.

The work includes the creation of both proof-of-concept demonstrations to illustrate specific technologies and algorithms as well as robust operational systems than can be put into production.  As an active member of project teams, you will be exposed to some of the data challenges faced at Verisk’s operations including large-scale data analysis (petabytes), real-time data analysis, and anomaly detection. Data sets of interest include large imagery and physical science data, payments industry data, and insurance data.

The DSEP data scientist will be expected to contribute to ideas for solving these problems as well as implementing the solutions. The position requires individuals that have a passion for collaboration and joint development across teams and divisions, leveraging their technical skill to inspire creativity across the organization.

Additionally, DSEP program participants receive mentorship, leadership training, program engagement events, and valuable exposure to senior data science leaders and customers impacting our company.
