Agency Description

Philly Counts is the City’s effort to engage residents around the 2020 Census. Over the next year, we will be
working closely with partners to mobilize communities to make sure every Philadelphian gets counted in the
Census by:

  • Raising awareness about the importance of the census
  • Informing the public about how to respond to the census
  • Educating the public on how to talk about the census
  • Ensuring a complete and accurate count
  • Supporting filling census jobs
     

Job Description

Organizing Fellows will learn best practices to build capacity through neighborhood teams and be trusted messengers in the community. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruit, manage, and train volunteers
  • Identify, develop, and empower volunteer leaders
  • Plan and execute strategic events and trainings to meet weekly volunteer goals (with the support of
  • Operations Manager)
  • Build and manage relationships with community gatekeepers and activist groups
  • Staff Census Job Fairs and other promotional activities and events across the city

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Enrolled in college or some college

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience working with people/strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to demonstrate, coach, and delegate tasks to others
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Strong multitasking skills and follow-up
  • Ability to work autonomously to reach goals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and an aptitude to learn new software
  • Local knowledge of Philadelphia and its neighborhoods is preferred, but not required
  • Foreign language proficiency is preferred, but not required
  • Candidates must be energetic, flexible, and convey a positive attitude and strong work ethic

Additional Information

This position is temporary and will end upon the completion of census work in 2020.

Hours and Hourly Rate: 35 hrs/week, $15 per hour.
