Job Description

The Research Manager is a collaborative, results oriented professional responsible for managing internal and external research work and providing evidence-based recommendations to support the delivery of Spear’s strategic goals. Work with Product Management and other senior leadership to develop business and market insights through a range of measures both internal and external and communicate appropriate recommendations.  As the research leader, you’ll use the best available data and market conditions to guide Spear on its mission to deliver world-class products which empower dentists and their teams to pursue and achieve Great Dentistry. 

Role Summary: 

  • Drive valuable insights by leveraging user research, market research, competitive research and product analytics. 
  • Curate all research reports, internal and external, to ensure a high-level view of significant findings and trends, extract insights and report them back to the business. 
  • Researching consumer behavior as it pertains to making purchasing decisions in our industry, including identifying trends and market conditions that might present opportunities and risks for Spear. 
  • Create research plans to support new product and feature development. 
  • Manage internal research projects and advise and guide colleague planning to conduct their own research.  
  • Manage external projects as required, including scoping the research and defining research methodology or briefing an outsourced research coordinator to do so. 
  • Establish usability research protocols to ensure effective and efficient product development, user experience and reduce development cycle. 
  • Perform usability study, design research, contextual inquiry & heuristic evaluation for online learning platform, applications, mobile apps and marketing websites. 
  • Identify and track usability issues.  
  • Performed statistical analysis. 
  • Partner with Product and Interaction Designers to develop and use UX/UI best practices, common design patterns, device specific limitations and ADA compliance when designing. 
  • Create processes to consolidate feedback loops and leads research efforts, leveraging proven scientific techniques to ensure sound insights 
  • Attend or conduct ongoing user research, focus groups, interviews, etc. Use the outcomes and finding to make design improvements and refinement or test new ideas before implementation. 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a Research Manager or similar role 
  • Graduate degree or Doctorate in Human Factors, Applied Psychology, Cognitive Psychology or relevant field 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Creative and analytical approach 
  • Problem solver and customer-centered 
  • Understanding of business metrics and the ability to translate company goals and objectives into digital experiences
