Junior Software Engineer

  • Full-time

Company Description

Applerouth is both an established tutoring service, with over 200 tutors active in Atlanta, DC, Chicago, Houston, Seattle, and New York, and an educational technology startup that creates adaptive, online test prep software for high schools across the country. Our unified goal is simple: deliver the highest quality test prep to as many students as possible. We are seeking a motivated engineer to help us reach that goal by perfecting our internal systems and developing a data-driven learning platform that will set a new standard for online test prep.

Job Description

This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of an already successful company. We developed our own online system to run every facet of our tutoring business, including: tutoring reports, sales/customer service, payroll, test grading and much more. Now we are taking the lessons learned from that system to launch a SaaS product to help other tutoring businesses like us.

As part of our engineering team, you would work with our sales, tutoring, and management teams to augment existing systems and design new ones to make each area of our business operate as efficiently as possible. Projects include both client-facing and employee-facing systems.

Our engineering team is also creating a state-of-the-art learning platform to help students prepare for the SAT and ACT. Our creative team of teachers, cartoonists, animators, and voice actors has put together hours of instructional videos, quizzes, and practice tests which live online in the form of interactive lessons.

The ideal applicant is highly self-motivated, excited to learn and willing to help out where needed.

Qualifications

Successful applicants will have some experience with:
MVC Web Frameworks (Laravel, Ruby on Rails)
HTML5/CSS3
Javascript (Vue.js, React)

Applicants must be able to demonstrate their skills using previous projects or submit sample code (think Github profile).

Why Work at Applerouth?

  • The Team. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more fun, creative, intelligent group of people. Office meetings may sometimes get nerdy (in a recent one, we may have debated whether it’s grammatically correct to say “myriad of opportunities” versus “myriad opportunities”), but we have a lot of fun. Trivia nights, company lunches, April Fools pranks, etc. abound.

  • Autonomy. We hire the best, and we empower them to do the most. If you’re hitting your goals and keeping your clients happy, you won’t find many micromanagers among us.

  • Growth potential. Our materials and tutoring methods are at the cutting edge of education, and our fantastic results and customer service have contributed to rapid growth year over year. Since we promote from within whenever possible, this translates into myriad opportunities for motivated employees.
