I. Background

Daayitwa (translated as ‘self-responsibility’ in English) envisions a resilient and thriving Nepal where every youth has opportunities for a prosperous future.  Towards this vision, Daayitwa is building a movement of leaders who, guided by shared values of collaborating, innovating, and serving, create solutions to tackle systemic issues in Nepal.  More specifically, Daayitwa has three objectives:

  1. Promote inclusive and innovation-led economic growth

  2. Strengthen governance of inclusive enterprise ecosystem

  3. Bolster community engagement for enhanced livelihoods

Daayitwa is implementing the Yuwa Aaja! Project which focuses on Youth Engagement and Youth Employment. Yuwa Aaja! operates based on the following theory of change: if innovation and leadership capability of youth is enhanced through action learning, they will address youth employment barriers through collective advocacy because they will realize and act upon their self-responsibilities for nation building.

Job Description

The Research Officer (RO) is responsible for providing critical support and leadership in planning and execution of research programs. The RO will receive general supervision from the Research Coordinator (RC) to support this project. The RO will also assist in other ongoing research works as well as provide logistical support to the Governance and Research team.

Accelerate Results

  1. Work together with Research Coordinator to deliver the research on Yuwa Aaja! Project

  2. Contribute to the development of concepts, methodologies and guidelines for policy and process research

  3. Manage fieldwork related to the project at all levels of the government

  4. Prepare minutes and reports of important meetings and events 

  5. Conduct literature reviews, drafting entire or portions of such reviews

  6. Review existing government policies, programs, plans and regulations

  7. Collaborate with the communications team in crafting and sharing stories of impact

Qualifications

  • Masters or higher degree in economics, political science, public policy, sociology, or other related field

  • Promising candidates with a Bachelors Degrees in relevant fields with some years of experience will also be considered

  • Academic coursework and practical experience in applied research methods, particularly in economics and social sciences

  • Impeccable interpersonal skills, with proven record of effectively interacting with senior management

  • Understanding of social issues related to entrepreneurship, and community-driven development

  • Excellent computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel

  • Self-starter and team-player with enthusiasm for continuous learning

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and drive for results are essential

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a diverse, team-oriented environment

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in Nepali and English

Daayitwa will provide compensation to the Research Officer on a monthly basis.  The rate will be mutually agreed upon, commensurate with the level of the required deliverables, the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
