Sseko Designs is a footwear and accessories company based in Portland, Oregon.  All of our products are designed for the western market and are produced in East Africa through partnerships with local communities and businesses.  We are building a sustainable and profitable company in East Africa as a means to provide dignified, fair-wage employment, and scholarship opportunities for women in Uganda. 

We are passionate about beautiful, well-designed footwear and accessories, and we are raising awareness of the importance of educating and empowering women in developing economies.  

Job Description

We are looking for a rockstar Community Manager + Marketing Intern to join the Sseko team during their summer break! Sseko products are sold by Sseko Fellows, a bright and bold community of dreamers and doers, who are using their passion and smarts to send women in Uganda to college and earn an income to pursue their own dreams. This role will be working closely with our Sseko Fellows, and alongside our Fellows Community Manager. If you're looking for experience in social media, content strategy, and sales, this internship is for you! This individual would be responsible for:

  • Social Media: Assist team in creation of ideas and content for social media, including Instagram and Pinterest specifically, with the goal of driving community engagement and Fellows acquisition.

  • Influencer Outreach: Assist staff in research and management of relationships with key bloggers and influencers.

  • Research: Stay on top of trends for best in class marketing in the direct sales space.

  • Recruiting Strategy: Work closely with our Fellows Community Manager to plan and execute recruiting specific campaigns.

  • Sseko Fellows Community: Help build community amongst our rockstar team of Sseko Fellows.

  • Fellows Content Strategy: Work with our Fellows Community Manager to create sales tips, product related trainings, social media tips, and more for direct sellers.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in marketing or related field.
  • Love for community-building and women's empowerment a must!
  • Good writer with strong attention to detail.

Additional Information

Interns are expected to work approximately 20 hours per week and attend additional events as necessary. We’re a small company and we share responsibilities, event work, and lots of various projects. Be ready to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty if needed! Internships are unpaid, but you may receive college credit if approved by your college or university. Interns are required to live within commuting distance of our office in Portland, OR. We have a small, lively office here in Portland -- and we are excited to welcome you into it!
