Seasonal Open Space Technician

We are the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority. Our mission is to conserve the natural environment, support agriculture and connect people to nature by protecting open spaces, natural areas, and working farms and ranches for future generations.

We have protected over 20,000 acres of natural and agricultural lands in Santa Clara County. Our agency operates a network of open space lands to manage and conserve natural resources and provide opportunities for hiking, biking, and equestrian uses.

Job Description

You are able to perform a variety of semi-skilled construction, carpentry, building and field maintenance duties including using hand and power tools such as chain saws, mowers, sprayers and similar equipment as well as perform routine maintenance and repair of assigned tools. You take responsibility for routine clean-up and maintenance on Authority lands including trails, roads, building and other facilities. You enjoy engaging members of the public by communicating the mission, vision and goals of the Authority, answering basic questions and interacting with the visitors and neighbors in a friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful manner.

The Open Space Authority provides a fun and challenging position, a team of highly committed individuals, and a rewarding working environment. Persons in this position may be required to work alone, work early mornings and nights, in the dark and some weekends. This position requires the willingness and ability to work outdoors in rugged terrain, walk over rough, hilly, uneven or unpaved ground and with exposure to natural elements. Qualifications

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • Experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks, open spaces, and/or related facilities highly desirable.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver’s license by time of appointment and have a satisfactory driving record.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, Basic First Aid and CPR certification desirable.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • This position is required to take and pass a pre-employment physical and background check.


Additional Information

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, temporary, non-exempt position. Salary is $19.00 per hour.
