After launching the company with a wildly successful Kickstarter, the team at Yacht Club Games released their first game, Shovel Knight, to worldwide critical and commercial success. With multiple Game of the Year Awards and releases across all major platforms, Shovel Knight has become a major sensation. But we’re just getting started!

In addition to enjoying all types of games, the team has over 50 years of collective experience in developing games on innumerable platforms. Yacht Club Games currently works from a sunny office located in Marina Del Rey, California.

Job Description

Currently Accepting Applications for 2018 January to March Programming Interns!

A programming internship with Yacht Club Games can help improve your programming skills while participating with a team to bring a video game to life! Learn to take game designs and implement them with a team, create player/enemy/object gameplay behaviors, implement menu UI elements, learn the ins and outs of a released ongoing project, or assist with our internal engine development and maintenance.

If you have interest in other fields as well we will accommodate them as best we can!

This position is an unpaid internship. Interns must have a way to be present at our office in Marina del Rey, California and we are not able to assist with living accommodations or transportation during the internship period.

Our internship openings are roughly during the following time periods:

  • January - March

  • May - July

  • September - November

We are willing to work with our interns to create a schedule that will work best for them, so these time periods are rough guidelines. See additional information section for application deadlines!

Qualifications

  • Potential Interns meet the requirements for an unpaid educational internship*

  • Can come to the office in Marina Del Rey, CA during scheduled hours

  • Good attitude, can work well in a team

  • Basic knowledge of C++

  • Highly Recommended: Examples of past games (released or unreleased) or projects that you have contributed on.


*Note this position is unpaid. It is required that it works towards your education in some way. You need to be able to prove you’re getting school credit or you have a school professor, teacher, principal, advisor, etc that approves the activity. Please refer to this document for any questions regarding what qualifies you as an unpaid intern.

Application Deadlines

Last day to submit for each internship period are the following days:

  • A January to March Internship: November 30th the previous year.
  • A May to July Internship: March 28th
  • A September to November internship: July 30th

If an application is received after 11:59pm Pacific Standard time on the above dates it will be considered an application for the next internship period.
